Sump Guard???
Anyone know where I could purchase a sump guard for a GTV6?
The front end was lowered recently and the bottom of the engine looks awfully vulnerable.
Thanks!

I know they exist, although it took me several years to find ours. I waited to lower our '82 GTV6 until I found one, and it was utilized (!) the first day after the car was lowered. I think it was made by AR Ricambi, BTW.
I had even bought a sump guard for an Alfetta coupe, which bolted into place nicely enough, but wasn't configured for the correct placement of the oil drain (duh!).
Good luck!

Thanks, I'll check their site.
edit: called them (him?) this afternoon, said he might have one buried on a shelf somewhere and would call me back.
Fingers crossed ;-)

My sump guard was from Alfa Ricambi also. I haven't put mine on but I've heard once the car is lowered, the guard will be hitting everything when driving.....I guess it's better than the sump!

Pictures?
Danny, JB, Anyone?
Could someone post pictures of an Alfetta and/or GTV sump guard so DYIers can fab something similar in case they're NLA? (enough acronyms?)
Thanks.

If you think your oil pan is likely to hit, how about the added material of the sump guard? I found that the sump guard on my Spider was hitting all the time and, being relatively soft material, was hitting the sump. Also it caused vibrations when it deformed up against the sump. I was taking it off and hammering it back into shape. Finally, I took it off and haven't had a problem since. I am just very conscious about clearances.

I'll try to take some photos of my GTV6 sump guard this weekend. I should also mention that yes, it tended to bump into various road objects until I replaced the shocks (BTW I bought 4 Bilsteins on EBay from someone selling lots of them in Las Vegas for $200). Once the new shocks were installed there have been very few times that the guard has been used. Obviously with the front end lowered, I still have to be careful.
Terry, I believe you have a different situation, only because I had the same experience- your motor mounts are sagging, and the motor has dropped to rest on the sump area. You are probably in serious jeopardy of the dreaded fan explosion when it hits the shroud. If you replace them (kind of a hassle on the driver's side), you could reinstall the guard, which I wouldn't want to be without (!).

Thanks for the long distance diagnosis, but the motor mounts and just about everything else are new on my '79 Spider. No engine sag going on there.

Here's mine:
Made by Greg Gordon's father, I think I paid about $250 or in that neighborhood, with the GTV6 lowered it's a small investment against a potentially devastating problem. So, well worth it.

Thanks for posting the pic. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to fab something like that. I have a buddy across town who builds roll cages for mining trucks. I'm gonna' have him look at this and see what he can dream up.
