79 sprint veloce - Easy way to free a stuck Clutch? Slave cylinder install help.

I'm installing a new slave cylinder, and can't get enough space for the pushrod because the clutch lever won't budge.

I'm assuming my clutch is stuck as the car hasn't been driven for years. Is there an easy way to free up the plates without dissassembly?

thanks!

hdh

Yes sir, I had the same problem. My solution was to get her out on the street, and with a warm engine and a clear driving path in front of you, put the car in first gear and with the clutch pedal depressed, hit the starter. She will buck and lurch forward until she starts. Drive her a short distance to the next clear spot with the clutch pedal depressed, shut down and repeat until the clutch breaks free. Be prepared to avoid an engine overspeed if she does break free, and be patient, mine took several iterations. There are a few threads on this BB about this problem if you search.

Clutch stuck

Appreciate the response. I did search and your recommendation popped up.

Unfortunately, in this situation, the old slave is already out, so i have to find a way to insert the new one prior to breaking it free and that's my challenge - the pushrod won't fit without depressing the clutch fork an inch or two more.

I'll probably have to dissassemble the clutch to free it. Was trying to avoid all that, but I've done it before...

Thanks,

hdh
