Alfetta GT Dash in a GTV6
For years I have LOVED the dash set up of the Alfetta GT with the big tac right in your face and the rest to the side ... not to mention that the speedo in the gtv6 can only be seen below about 30 mph and above 70 mph.
1) Has anyone installed a GT dash into a gtv6, the top vents seem to be in the same place, the window buttons, etc. would have to be moved. I am guessing the gauges of the GT would all work but I am not sure how the speedo connection from the transaxle compares - anyone with knowledge on this ... gt601 maybe?
2) Are all Alfetta GT dashes black?
My v6 (a 1983) is pretty darn unmolested so I hate to modify it ... BUT, the GT dash is the one thing that at times has made me want to own a GT so I am really thinking about this!

I am pretty sure some early GTV6s had the Alfetta dash. I have only seen them in pictures, so it may have been a pre-production thing. In any case, I suspect it would be an easy swap. Of course if you just want to see the speedometer more easily you could just swap the tach and speedo positions.

well theres a few kickers...the fetta and gtv6 share the body..so it will be a bolt in...the real issue is going to be wireing connection points
on the speedo end of things...if you have an 83 then you "should" have the old type of speedo sensor..which means when you pull it out of the case you will see its a gear driven setup...so all you would need is the gear drive and cable from a fetta and your speedo issue is 100% solved and correct

It was a pretty easy swap. I took a couple of hours on a Saturday. I switched to the later electric tach and it reads funny now. I'll fix it someday.

If you deside to go back to a cable run tach I have a new tach cable still in the wrapper.

I've been lazy. I have an old Volvo 240 tach that has the same spacing on the screw holes that hold the faceplate on so I'm going to take one of my old tachs and gut it to see if it will work right. I'll probably have to chop and cut a bit so that the turn signal indication will work in it. I am also planning on installing an LED oil pressure light in it so it will be in front of me just in case.
GV,
I'll bet that the GTV-6 color coding on the wiring will be that same as the Alfetta or pretty darn close. You will have to have doner harnesses for the gauges with as much wire on them as possible so you have enough harness to move the gauges to where they need to be in the dash. I just matched the wires cut and soldered the harnesses to the old wires. I also don't think that you have to change the dash out to the Alfetta dash now that I think about it. The holes are the same for the gauges and the shades for the gauges are the same also. Here is a another pic of my sedan for reference.

early european gtv6 had the same dash as the alfetta gt as did the early chrome bumper gtv 2.0 and 1.6 except the rev counter was in the centre and the speedo was directley in front of the driver. the gtv6 changed dash over hear (UK) in the gtv6 from 1983 then again in 1984.

I´ve seen RHD in the UK and they have the alfetta gt style dash, so I guess that an alfetta gt dash would be a bolt on the gtv6...it would be great and crazy if you do it!!

I'll take this one...
Yes - they are all black - with your choice of either a chrome like strip running along the length of the dash or a genuine fake plastic wood strip that ran along the whole length. I believe the wood was reserved for the '78-79 Sprint Veloce's or else it was reserved for highly optioned cars with A/C and leather installed. My '79 originally had the wood (plus A/C and leather)- which I couldn't stand, so i swapped out with a chrome strip version.

??? - don't really understand the motivation to swap back to the earlier and generally considered to be inferior dash. I know people who have swapped the other way, so presume it is very do-able. Don't know where your elec window switches would go though?
In terms of tach and speedo visibility - maybe there's something diff betwn LHD and RHD, but my GTV6 is from left to right, clock - tacho - speedo and the wheel (350mm Momo) obscures only the 9 to 12 bit of the clock and the 100 to 160 bit of the speedo with the tacho slap bang in the middle and fully visible. With a standard wheel (380mm) I can see all the gauges all the time.

Helpful info. all - Yes, at this end the clock is where the speedo is - just enough bother to where you can't see the speedo at the speeds of most posted limits. Though I like Greg G's thought on swapping the speedo and revs, as long as I can see the redline.
I do think the gtv6 dash is more refined ... it's just the oddity of the GT dash is really cool (and the blue gauges are also different) - the wiring would be the real challenge..
My car is in such good original shape now that I hate to pull the nice dash - Maybe the thing to do is pick up both dashes and make one custom out of the two, while my original is in the car.

Go for it! I love the older dash. It really makes a statement.
The Speedo in front of the driver was a UK thing. Stupid.
The 82 I had in the UK had a dealer installed dash that replaced the early Alfetta prior to the regular dash.
Not very exciting.
I even though about an early spider tach cowl with a bad *** tach from a 455 Ferrari......
