I have a very cheap but quite good version:
- Front brakes:
Calibers from Volvo 240
disk from Alfa 164 V6
pads: PBR ULTIMATE CERAMIC (Kevlar)
- Rear brakes:
SZ Caliper Kit
Brembo SZ Vented Disk
Ferrodo D2500 pads
brake fluid like Castrol SRF
steel braided brake lines

Are the calibers a direct bolt on and fit the standard wheels? Terry

Im not looking for a racing kit, just high performance 'sports' brakes.

I think Merril has the best advice on switching-out the proportioning valve (for starters) with one from a late GTV6 or Milano. Do the other sensible things and take her out and see how it goes. I once had Shankel cross-drilled rotors (all around), and for the x-tra money, I got very little performance improvement (still, inexpensive compared to a big brake kit).
Pads make a more noticable difference - hell, I felt like I atually lost a little braking distance (tho gained a little fade resistance)!
The main issue I see with these brakes (for racing) is lack of mass. If you can't afford to do the big brake & SZ conversions, then you have to be clever (like the Danes). Especially at the rear. Perhaps something in the middle - like getting Tarox or Giro-disc rotors and figuring out how to direct some air back there would be the best bang for the buck. Tarox rear rotors will run you $250.00 + shipping http://www.performatek.com/frOnlineCatalog.htm, essentially $180.00 more than stock Brembo rear rotors. The SZ Brembo kit will run you ~$530.00 + shipping.
You never did answer back with what your current set-up is. Not polite to ask advice and not answer back to questions.

ToonRboy,
How often do you go to the track?

I used to track a MIlano Verde with cross/drilled rotors, Hawk pads, steel braided brake lines and never had a fade problem. Setup was street/track so brakepads weren't high temp race pads. I did change the 4dot brake fluid every other track day. The two tracks I ran are pretty long and maybe only had 2-3 hard braking areas with a big long straightway soon after to cool brakes (Reno-Fernley and Thunderhill for those in the states).
Now I have a GTV6, with stock rotors, rubber brake lines, Hawk pads, but have side outs for the exhaust so the rear rotors don't have the exhaust near them to build up extra heat. Car brakes well, with no fade but again, longer track. Also changing out the brake fluid every other track day, and replace pads, before you need to, not expensive.
I think the side out exhaust really helps the most, plus changing the brake pads early, maybe you just need to find the right brake pad?

Grant,
You bled your brakes a lot at BW. What's your setup?

Stock everything besides Porterfield RS4 (or was it R4S...I have the street/track one), stainless lines, and Dot 4 fluid. I bled my brakes 5 times at Button Willow!

Walt, did you have much trouble fitting the 164 disks?
My understanding is the calipers are bolt on.

I noticed that Alfa Parts has 2 brake proportioning valve. One for the 87 Milano and one for the 88-90 Milano. Would either be correct for a GTV6.

What about an adjustable proportioning valve? I used a Speedway (similar to Willwood) and was able to adjust my car from very poor bias (too much front) to near spot on. They are only about $50.
Made a huge difference to braking power and stopping distances.
They adjust from 0 to 57% bias.

Yes, they are
But I don't know if they pass with the standart wheels, I can try this weekend
They fit with 15x7" Ronal R10 and with Zender.

Gabor, those are really great prices (compared to the US distributor I checked, anyway) - how is the product itself? I direct that question to anyone with related experience.
Thanks for the link.

All is explained in this link, but unfortunately it's in French

You need to make a spacer which it is necessary to introduce between the disc and the part number 6

You have to increase the boring of the central hole

Grand Prix: I posted earlier here a couple photos of the 310mm/ 6 pot Tarox kit on one of our cars. This car has a tuned 3L 12V engine, RSR handling kit and the Tarox brakes. Needless to say its a different car in many senses, specifically the brakes are a 3 times improvement of the original brakes, much better feel and response, well worth the investment!
