Rear wheel bearing number

Has anyone installed IAP's rear wheel bearings on your Alfetta/GTV6/Milano? If so, do you feel they are of good to excellent quality?

Or - does anyone have the bearing number (along with the manufacturer) for this bearing?

I'm told it is the same bearing as on the rear of mid 80's Saabs. However this is not helping me. My measurements of the bearing are OD - 75 mm / ID - 42 mm / Width - 37 mm. Two bearing houses can't find this size nor does either have a listing for automobiles. Apparently it is the ID that doesn't match up.

The bearing is a FAG but the number is Extremely obscure (even looking through a 12 x engraver's glass). My best guess the number 'might be 52714718.

G'Day Biba,

I have the answer for a Milano bearing but they're 80mm.

Searching on the Milano part number I found a site which also listed a 75-42-37 for an Alfa (+ SAAB Audi Porsche BMW).

So this may or may not be the answer, you'll have to check.

FAG:

533953
545495D
521771

SKF:

633457
BAHB 311424 BA

Craig, boy am I confused. Our (as opposed to OZ) IAP lists the same bearing for all - Alfetta/GTV6/Milano - so I'm wondering where/when the 80 mm came in?

Since I'm working both sides of the street, I also have it listed on the Milano group. A fellow from Bulgeria not only included the part number as 545495AD but also shows the FAG box with the number on it.

I have a fellow who owns a local parts place which specializes in European parts such as FAG & Bosch who is trying to find a source. These additional numbers will certainly help. Not sure about in your neck of the woods but here all of the bearing houses appear Not to specialize in automotive bearings but industrial ones.

G'Day Biba,

The part number for the 80mm bearing is SKF BAHB 633770 so you don't want that one.

Luckily for me SKF have a retail store just around the corner from work.

I have the IAPs on my GTV6, they have less than 2500 miles. I have to believe they are fine, I certainly haven't had any issues, but I'm not sure how it is possible to guage the quality of the bearings, it's not like one can feel it while driving. I was very happy to have the new ones, to know they were there gives a feeling of confidnce, I guess. But who knows if they are any good? I sure hope so.

SD, you're the first to mention that you have IAP's bearings on your car. I pretty much agree with you in that how does one really know? Do you recall the brand name/initials?

Just having new bearings installed has to be better than older well worn bearings. My thinking went like this: Almost everyone said that the available lower ball joint for the front suspension on Alfetta's (possibly also GTV6's) was junk. That Lemfordor's were the only quality ones available. So I went to a lot of trouble to get Lemfordor's when I completely went through my front suspension.

No one has said IAP's rear wheel bearings are junk, but until now, no one has said they are even 'okay'. Both of these 'projects' - ball joints/rear wheel bearings - are less than fun and I want to do it once and forget about it, thus my search for 'card carrying' quality bearings. FAG's definitely come up as being of high quality.

Thanks for your feedback,

Biba
