Front Flexible joint removal

I am having trouble removing the front flexible joint on my 78 Sprint Veloce. I have seperated the joint from the fly wheel but can not figure out how to remove it from the driveline. A copy of any schematics for this car would be greatly appreciated.
Grazie,

Have you removed the drive shaft?

Hi Rod,

Ossodiseppia asks the right question. If you can find one, the Haynes manual for the Alfetta gives a good explanation of the job. It is a bit of a wrestling match.

Did you get the bolts out OK? It sometimes helps to compress the donut with a couple of long hose clamps before you take the bolts out even if you are going to trash it. Ditto with the other flex joints.

Good luck,

Alasdair

I have the rear 'half' of the driveshaft out and the new donuts on either end. The front drive shaft has the driveshaft support still attached and the front donut. The front and rear bolts came out relatively easily but the "bolts' on the driveshafts have no heads and I assume they are pressed in. The front donut on the flywheel side has a 'tube' which has a spring held in with a snap ring. the spring is out but the tube remains with a rubber 'washer' behind keeping the donut from coming off. The front donut does not have a smooth straight hole through the center but resessed differently on both sides. I can not get the donut past the gearlever 'housing' but possibly could if I compress the old donut with the hose clamp method. The only book I have is the Autobooks Alfetta 75-78 autobook (England) and there is no mention or drawing of the parts I am trying to explain. I will try to find a Haynes manual, and thanks for the sugestions.
Rod

I had to take the gear lever out of my GTV6 to get it out, and had to wrestle with it for quite some time as it is in there pretty well [for good reason].

Yup, take out the link back to the gearbox, and then undo the three bolts the hold the gearlever to the tunnel. With the gear lever hanging there by the boots above , you can then get the front half of the propshaft out.

The rubber seal behind the centering device (cylinder) at the front of the propshaft needs to be gently prised out and over the centering device before the coupling will come off. I would recommend that this device is serviced (cleaned and greased) when the donut is off.

You should not need to remove any of the bolts from the shafts.

The propshaft should actually have been removed in one piece, and therefore put back in in one piece. It is very hard to get the middle centering device (spherical bearing) to locate when half is in the car. Ensure it is properly located in its relevant bore before bolting everything back up. Lube it well too!

If you get it wrong, it's gunna vibrate like all getout! These shafts can be a bit finicky to work on so if you have someone who knows these cars well nearby, get them to help.
