I found more info...
US import figures:
'80 1 car (does anyone have info or know about this car)
'81 1272 cars
'82 1116 cars
'83 513 cars
'84 1050 cars
'85 722 cars (+1, my gray market Euro model, that I know of)
'86 +/- 1020cars (from a different source)
this totals about 5700 cars in the US.
So what percenatge of cars do we think have crashed/rusted/parted out to death?
How many might still be on the road?
How many nice ones are on the road?
My guesstimate is about a 1000 the road in nice shape, maybe a 1000 beaters, ready to be parted, restored and or turned into race-cars.
What do you think gang?
And if this is the case, the GTV6 is rarer than I thought, maybe a registry is appropriate?
cheers, Nick

I wouldn't mind saying "yeah this is one of XXXX left in north america". But how would you go about finding every single GTV6 in america?

Facinating figures Nick. Who would have thought so few 83s were imported. They seem to be more common then other years. A registry might be a good idea.

I'm more interested in the Alfa community's guesstimate, and maybe spark the idea of a registry. Another reason is that the cars are now getting to the age where they become "classics" and they are expensive too keep... And if they are deemed rare... we might get some more respect and maybe a fraction of the time and money we pump in to these cars back ;-)

I can tell you that I have one of the 513 83's. It's still running so that counts.

I would say something like 500 in "club concours" or better condition, 1000 cars that are worse than that, but run and drive, and maybe 500 restorable cars, and another 500 that are parts cars.

I would say Dretceterinis estimate is close, maybe a little high on Concours condition cars. It is odd though, that out of 11 GTV6s that I currently have, 8 are 82s and 83s. I thought also there where more 86s, though I don't seem to see as many of those.

I wonder if GTV6org.com has any of that info? I know that I can lay my hands on at least 12 within 10 miles of here. They certainly don't seem too scarce, at least not in this area.

Alex,
If you can land your hands on 12 of them within Norfolk, how about finding me a set of tan leater recaro's for a guy up in NoVA/Richmond? I didn't realise there were that many in VA to start with!

Rob,
I'll ask around. Have you tried the Capital Chapter folks, Difatta Bros and Aren Baze at European Classics and Sportscars in Richmond?

Rob,
There's a guy here who is selling his 84 GTV6 built with Maratona left-over parts (by the factory). It has the black with red stitching style seats. You'd have to buy the whole car though. It's cheap cuz it is rusting quite a bit and the owner doesn't have time to fix it up.
Let me know what you think by e-mail at: alfaromeodriver@cox.net
