Hi Chris:
Congratulations! I made the trip from the Bay Area to Vancouver last summer in my 1988 Spider without a single incident. It just goes to show that for a true Alfisto, these cars can be relied upon like a Camry (almost). AND they surely look and drive much better. Did the car attract a lot of attention along the way?

Well, oddly enough it did, both expected and unexpected. Expected from other Alfisti (beautiful black 164 going south on I5 north of Seattle, anybody?) and unexpected from various, um, housing-disadvantaged people and street musicians in Vancouver. And up there I think it got some more looks just for being old

LOL - Chris, I've had a long running joke with a friend about how strange it is that the housing challenged here in SF all know what kind of car the Alfas are, and usually some interesting story goes along with it. It's very odd - average folk have no idea what they are, but the homeless are always yelling "ALFA ROMEO!!" or commenting on the car whenever I'm gassing up. Never fails to amuse me....
p.s. Glad to hear you had a successful voyage - Alfettas really are excellent long distance drivers.

More pics
Found some more pics on my camera I'd been meaning to post. They're in Vancouver (the car left its mark in the drive of the Listel ), southern Oregon (Grants Pass, I think - check out the cave man) and northern California (Crescent City & Klamath). Check out all that rust! And this time I'm not talking about my car.

Greetings Chris:
Thanks for sharing the photos of your West Coastline trip. Discussions such as this one should help encouraged all Alfa owners to get their cars out on the road! I am a relatively new scanner of this forum, as I only picked up my first Alfetta GT only after your trip and was not aware of your earlier, live, posts.
My wife and I had a slightly more bold adventure in June, beginning at Group2 in Seattle and ending in our driveway in CT: Alfetta Transcontinental Recovery

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the reply - I saw your trip unfold on the BB as it was happening - I'm always impressed by the energy people have to post pics and text after a long day's drive. Once I get somewhere after a day of exploring/driving, I'm usually ready to fall into bed and not much else!
I was actually sorely tempted by your car the times I saw it for sale, but passing smog with altered FI in California is risky... glad to see you made it okay aside from that one repair stop!

Greetings Chris: Technology helps today. I have a wireless broadband card in the laptop, and the iPhone can do most of this over the air. The "staged" phone pics are the key - didn't have to extract all those pics we took sightseeing. Also, our AlfaBB's tools are fantastic, encouraging the effort. For most of the trip we actually travelled moderately, leaving ourselves the luxury of leisurely meals and adequate sleep. Oh, and I had a bit of time on my hands in Ohio...
Re the smog - graciously, the great state of CT has no inspection for cars over 25 years old. That is one reason I was not interested in later year GTV-6s. And no doubt, it would not have passed given the oil she consumes.
