RE; GTV/6 front Flywheel Issues

Hello All,

I am in need of some help, currently my alfa gtv6 is not engaging the starter. I have removed the starter and it seems to work well ( going to check the started clutch) the issue is the flywheel from the pics I have seen on the net it does not seem that bad? Further, there were no warning signs the starter simply did not want to work after I replaced the timming Belt ( car runs well when bump started therefore, no motoer issues). My questions is does the motor have to be removed to replace flywhee? Have others come across this problem? I have owne the car for over 25 years and have never had a flywheel starter issue? Is it possible the flywheel simply went bad possibly a loose starter?

thanks in advance
Emilio

I don't see the flywheel "fail". How would it fail? Something related to your starter - look there, not at the flywheel. Unless, of course, you have certain evidence.

But, since you asked, to remove flywheel you basically have to pull engine. I have heard you can do it with engine in car, but that it is no faster.

best thing to do is to take the starter off and move the motor around a little at a time and look for missing teeth. No need to go too far too fast and it not be the problem. It is easer to replace with the motor out but can be done in the car although it will take twice as much time as taking the motor out.
