What have I gotten myself into..?

Alfetta ownership, that's what.

I have bought a 1984 Alfetta 2000 L (pics will come later, I know that the thread is useless without them!), which is 100 % rust free. Quite a novelty in Denmark... The engine runs freely, and there isn't much crunch in the second gear syncromesh, nice.

The trouble spots so far are:

Eletrical Gremlins:

- The trip computer is busted.
- The electrical seat recliner for the passenger seat is defunct.
- The electrical mirrors won't move.
- The tripmeter isn't running - my biggest concern.

Cosmetic worries:

- The seats aren't very nice. At all. Could use new foam and fabric.
- The lacquer of the steering wheel is shot on the top part.

I guess that is it really. If you would like to see a few pictures from the first outing (where we looked it over), the link is here...

If you have any advice about how to source parts, rectify the small faults, etc., I would very much like to hear it.

I like this car a lot, it is really quirky! This comming from a guy who owns an Alfasud...

You just have to love all the funky 80's styling!

Of course I am keeping the Alfasud!

I now own two of the most rustprone Alfa Romeos... EVER. Both in pristine condition body-wise, and I live in one of the worst countries when it comes to rust infestation, haha..!

Fetta, the Ronals are very nice, though one of them has been curbed at some point. Would really like a set of 15" A1s, so I might start looking for those.

Any help with the technical stuff?

We never had the chance to buy the Alfa's you have.....so besides the general "check the grounds" etc. etc.
I'm afraid most of us over on this side of the big water will not be much help.....at least that'll be true for me!!

Congats, the car looks very very good indeed, especially the interior. Regarding the mechanicals those alfettas as well as the gtv2.0s have the same components as the late alfettas (77 on) on the US, this applies to brakes, giubos, and others. UT they may be some minor changes, maybe the car shares components with th 75 (milano) TS vesions.

You may try highwood alfa at the Uk for more mechanical info on the car as they sell many parts for the alfetta GT or gtv2.0.

IŽve seen a couple of those here in PEru and they have Bosch injection, I assume it is the same as the ones the spider had so you may try on the spider forum anything related to that system.

Really like the car, probably some day IŽll go for an alfetta sedan here in PEru once I finish with the gt jeje...

Could you post on your page some pics of that lovely and oustanding 155 Q4?

Wow! Congratulations and welcome to the elite club of red Alfetta Sedan owners!!

As mentioned before - with electrical glitches, you have to do some basic troubleshooting. Check fuses, check connections, check grounds, check wiring, curse and have a beer, take stuff apart and check again, I think the motors that drive the seats and mirrors are easily burnt out...
Are both the mileage odometer and the trip odometer electronic on that car?? Our earlier cars were mechanical, driven off the speedometer cable. Does the main (mileage) odometer work okay and the trip computer doesn't? Or do both not work?

Sweet! I love the wheels, and all the electrical gizmo's.

Also, is that real wood on the dash?

Hi all, thanks for all the nice words, I really appreciate that

Ennio:
I will try to get some more pictures, it really is a very nice car! He bought it dirt cheap as well, the son of a...
I will try Highwood Alfa, thank you. There isn't really much I miss on the car, except for some small items.

sfalfa
Thank you for the welcome, I do feel quite elite
I will get down to checking the various components over the next few weeks, should be fun. I have absolutely no idea whether the mileage odometer is electronic or not, I guess it really is mechanical. None of them work... The clock and the timer (why is there a timer?!?) both work, though I have no idea how to set the clock, which is way off.

gt601
I know what you mean now

All torque
The wheels are nice, though I will soon be looking for some others, relegating these to winter duty. A shame that they aren't the more attractive 15" version, though.
It most definitely isn't real wood

I have some... plans for it, which I will share with you soon, I intend to keep this thread open, so people can come with advice (appreciated) and mock me when it goes wrong (I like laughing at others expence, so feel free to have one on mine )

I have made a list of trouble areas, which I want to address, before I turn to my other ideas.

New Interior
I am tired of the one that is in it right now, so am looking for a new one. I have been let to believe that it possible to use one from an Alfa 90, so I am looking into that right now.

Electrical Gremlins...
- No lights in instrument cluster.
- Driver's side window is "slow". Probably just needs silicone...
- Mirrors aren't that adjustable...
- Passenger seat doesn't recline. Probably cured by donor seat from 90.
- Central locking doesn't work on right hand side back door...
- The tripcomputer "Deep Blue" Doesn't work. Bothers me little
- Driver's side loud speaker doesn't work.
- Blower doesn't blow.

The Slightly More Critical
- Odometer doesn't work.
- It uses just a liiiiitle too much gas?
- Brakes will need replacing soon. Any ideas for upgrades?
- Definately needs servicing soon...

What I Probably Can't Do Anything About
- The 2nd gear synchromesh is a bit temperamental

Any ideas?

Some good quality gear box oil helped with my 2nd gear synchro issue. That said, it still requires double de clutching for a smooth shift.

I got an e-mail from Achivio Storicho:

According to our documentation files, the chassis number ZAR 11655000151047 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Alfetta Berlina 2.0 I.E. Quadrifoglio, manufactured on the 10th May 1983 and sold on the 7th June 1984 in Sweden.

The body colour is Alfa red.

...Which is a bit weird. Didn't know that it had been in Sweden - and apparently it's a year older than I thought. Nice, means it get's "classic status" sooner, so it will be cheaper to insure
