Well, in the slow progress, I sandblasted all the small parts and borrowed a pneumatic drill to remove the paint from the axle with a wire wheel... what an arduous task. Today I skipped the ARA tour since the spider didn't have sufficient fuel pressure (its 2nd new pump, I think I've got some diagnosis to do), so I painted the parts, and while I waited for the paint to dry completely, I washed my Golf veloce and picked up a free Ansa twin-tip exhaust from Andrew (thanks!).

It's a bit less glossy than I'd hoped for, but I picked the low gloss paint because I didn't want the underside of the car outshining the topside (which is not too hard, if you've noticed the paint on the top).
