Thinking about selling my Alfetta GT Mille Miglia
Looks as though i'm going to be making a significant move to the dessert & I'm thinking that it might not be the best place to enjoy my 79 Alfetta GT Mille Miglia. I've truly enjoyed owning the car for the past 10 years & the rarity factor has been fun, but....
I'm curious to know everyone's opinion as to what the car might be worth - it is one of the 500 mille Miglia editions & one of the last produced due to the later tail lights. It's not completely original (new black interior, which is beautiful / Weber carbs / Ansa exhaust), but I've never been a stickler for that anyway. Condition is really good - I had the top end re-built last spring & it drives great - the only issues are rusty inner fenders (only rust I've ever found) and the 2nd gear synchros.
The body is really nice.
Let me know what you think.
THANKS!!

It depends on the rust in the inner fenderwells since this is a particularly bad place where these cars rust. My old '79 Mille Miglia suffered badly from this. And the car not being totally original with the interior, carbs and GTV6 taillights can hurt the price. I would want one of these cars as close to original as possible just because of what it is.
A while back a very, very nice '79 Sprint Veloce came up for sale on this board and sold for in the neighborhood of $5,500. Otherwise prices are all over the place for these cars. My guess for your car would be in the $3,500 range.
More photos would be helpful.
Nice car though. If you were lots closer I would think about. I like the Alfettas having owned two of them previously.

Yes, what he said. Pictures of the rust areas would be helpful, those inner fenders are structural. The car looks too nice on the outside to have any significant problems underneath.
It probably won't rust much in the desert, I'd bring it with me if I were you, there are some wide open roads out west, it could be a ton of fun out there!

Nice car....but it's still just an Alfetta with some spoilers!
I don't think any Alfettas ever came with the those tail lights, I think someone put GTV6 lights on it at some point.
I would love a nice Alfetta, I even like my not-so-nice Alfetta, but I believe we are a minority..........
I agree with the rest of the folks, instead of selling it for $3000-$4000 take it with you if at all possible.

I'll be the Devil's advocate here: Black cars in the desert = Misery. If you do bring it with you, hopefully you have working A/C - as these cars heat up very easily with 2 nearly horizonal glass planes. Even here in perpetually cool SF, there are days I regret removing my working A/C from my Alfetta. Sitting in traffic on a sunny day can quickly get uncomfortable even it's it's not warm outside.
I'll also chime in with the chorus of others and say that somebody installed GTV-6 taillights on your car at a later time, it didn't roll off the factory floor with those lights (especially being a limited edition model - where uniformity of features is key from car to car).

Do you have any more pictures of the interior, engine compartment and specifically the area and extent of the rust? I would be interested in this Alfetta.

If it is any consolation I don`t think the body around the tail lights needs to be modified to fit the newer series 2 Alfetta GTV (both 4cyl & V6) tail lights. Panel appears to be identical, so it should be able to be reconverted to original style ser 1 tail lights without any body repairs or major expense.

taillights
i installed gtv6 taillights on my old alfetta gtv many years ago. straight bolt on but you had to be a little creative matching up the wiring. absolutely beautiful car. makes me want to sell my 164s and get another one.

Thank you all for the feedback & it's good to know that the rear lights are not original - always wondered... I do have a set of the original style lenses as well; just never got around (even in 10 years) to making the switch.
Here's a shot of the interior - I don't have the black door panels or carpet installed yet, but those items would come with the car. The installed seats were beautifully redone using the factory spec leather grade & texture. I also kept my original tan seats in case the next owner would like them (that's how crazy I am) - they would need restoring as the seams have split in areas.
Regarding not taking the car with me to Vegas, it's not about the good roads out there (valley of fire is incredible), but more about the extreme heat & these cars aren't the best for ventillation.
That said, it would take more than $3500 to make me sell - when was the last time you saw a Mille Miglia in this condition???

Good to read this... There for a while I couldn't tell if the posters or you were suffering from "sunstroke", caused by all this Vegas talk.
Best regards,

Heck, Vegas isn't hot all year. Do the reverse! Most people in the northeast winterize their cars and only drive them in the summer. Why don't you "summerize" and only drive in the fall/winter?
Vegas has more weather than just 115 degree days you know...

You could probably even take it out at night during the summer! Time of day makes no difference in the mist of a mid west winter...
