Alfetta
Beautiful car and I wouldn't sell it for $3500. I'm currently looking
for a used car for my 16 yr. old and $3500 won't buy you much, so
keep it unless someone makes you an offer you can't refuse!

$3500.00 for that car is a starting point. That is, assuming (from the obvious) that the engine compartment, drivetrain and suspension shows like the exterior. Best way to feel it out is to place her on ebay in the spring & see what happens. I would pay $5000.00 for an Alfa like that. Problem is, these cars are kinda like boats. Always something to fix, and you invariably have to sell at a loss. Sometimes BIG loss (depending on if you were foolish enough to spend too much on it). I'll tell you this though, I'd much rather buy a well sorted clean example that starts, runs, and stops then the fixer-upper "deal".
Anyway, I'd recommend you put together your maintenace history in Excel with corresponding costs totalled-up, backed-up by receipts. It wouldn't hurt to post pics of the undercarriage so that views of the brakes, transaxle, and exhaust can be seen. Maybe a sound clip or video (sound sells Alfa's).
You probably don't want to invest much more, but being as you went with black seats, I'd install red carpeting. Also, lose those GTV6 taillamps (sell 'em on ebay) & get the proper taillamps on there.

Your avatar seems to have a black GTV6 on there. So, you definitely like your vehicles black. I would have had the tan restored. Looks great against the black IMO. What do you think your Mille Miglia should sell for?

Reason: changed "is retarded" to "is a starting point" -

I love it when someone gets on here and asks people "What they think" then, after 4-6 people ALL basically say the same thing the person disagrees.
You have a nice looking Alfetta. It has some spoilers and a badge. It also has incorrect tail lights, incorrect interior and it has rust. The rust is the killer on this particular model. Show some pictures of the rust, let's see how bad it is!
I think you would be lucky to get $3500 for the car. A lot of people talk a good game but those people don't bring cash.

I think the new post "Alfetta GT FS in Berkeley, CA" in this forum puts things in perspective regarding the Alfetta special editions. The description says this car is restored and the asking price is $4,500. A little on the low side I think, but there you go.

I don't think he disagrees with everyone's opinion, it's just that he
wouldn't sell the car for the value placed on it by those who replied.
Just because someone says it's nicer than what $3500 normally brings
for any car doesn't mean those opinions are baseless just because we
don't buy it. There's no reason to get angry with him over his replies.
Thanks!

I'd agree that seems low - especially for a Velocissima edition, which seems to be the rarest of the U.S. special editions. I've seen that car listed in person - it's quite nice, plus it has all the receipts...I'm always amazed at just how cheap these cars trade for.

Toonrboy - thanks for the suggestion & you have a good point regarding ebay in the spring, should I decide not to take it with me. Not sure about the red carpet - I have a nice grey one ready to go in.
Fact of the matter is that I'm travelling almost constantly at the moment & i don't have any pictures of the engine bay or underside of the car on my laptop - I would post them otherwise & will post pictures as soon as possible (car is under cover in the garage at home).
I don't necessarily assume my car to be worth more than what has been stated in the responses - nor do I really care about the difference between $3000 & $5000. I simply asked for opinions so that I could use them in my decision making process. It does surprise me that these alfettas aren't as desireable as they should be given their rarity and all of the unique qualities they possess(balance / design / simplcity / rust resistance.....joke / handling etc).
To all those that have PM'd me regarding selling the car - thanks for your interest & I will email you pictures once I return home from LA this weekend. I should know if/when I will be moving to Vegas within the next 2-3 weeks, so I will be making the decision to sell or not soon after.
Thank you for all of your comments.

Angry? I'm not angry at anyone, I just stated my opinion. I'll wait and see what the rusty areas look like before I finalize any decisions in my mind and if asked about "what people think" I will let that be known. What do I care if it sells for $500 or $10,000? That is between the buyer and seller. My opinion is that it is a $3000 car, that and a dollar will get you a cup of bad coffee. Someone just paid huge money for a Spider, so what!? If the buyer and seller are happy then that is all that matters. If the current owner thinks his car is worth more then the prices MANY other people have stated, and if he can find a buyer for that higher price, so be it.
Why would anyone get angry about that?

I kind of agree with what you're saying, but you should calm down a bit.... Nobody has asked or implied anything offensive here.
Your opinion is welcome - just leave the negativity out of it until justified.

Don't get personal fellas
I think the first reply by alfaga was probably right on. Looks can be deceiving.
In college I owned a '78 Datsun 280Z that looked almost mint - till you looked at the underside. Man! that thing was as rusty as the USS Arizona! Everything else + the engine was tip-top. Back then I paid a grand for it. 'Didn't really nickel and dime me either. Lasted two years when, turning in to the campus, the trans disintegrated and the rear-end locked up. This of course could never happen to an Alfetta because there is no way you'll be able to downshift into second in a turn going faster than 20mph!! Yeah, death by implosion.
BTW - I like the way the Ansa exhaust comes out angled and center on the Alfetta (vs. the ugly muffler on the GTV6) & I bet those Ronal's are probably worth a grand all by themselves.
Good luck with it & the difference between 3500 & 5000 could be some nice Compomotive LC or TH for your GTV6...

First off, if I had the extra cash of what I think the car is worth, I’d offer it to you in a heartbeat. I didn’t study the posts that closely to see if there was any mention of rust, or mechanical condition other than the recent rebuild of the top end. The body and interior of the car appears to be in great condition, much better than a ‘regular’ ’78 Sprint Veloce that I bought back in ’90 for $5,000. With the value of the car increasing as time goes on, and it being a special edition, the value I’d place on the car would be in the range of $7,500-10,000 depending on rust. Mechanicals of the car (to me) are relatively simple, so they don’t worry me. If you need some storage space for the car, I’ll donate some garage space free. Beautiful car..
Toonerboy: I remember downshifting into second easily at the speeds you mention. Double clutch, and learn the transmission’s quirks. I’ve been driving this chassis since 1989 in various states of mechanical condition. People who borrowed the car complained about the transmission not shifting well, but I never had any problems with it.

I understand you wanting more than $3500- for it but if you think about it for that or not much more you can have a GTV6. Rust issues resolved, more powerful engine, colder A/C, Recaro seats, ETC. I have a Mille Miglia that is a garage queen and I don't sell because I can't get anything for it. I have an Alfetta GTV that I have for parts. I only have it because the interior looks like it just left the factory and the drivetrain is prestine including the tranny. I would be interested in this Alfa to restore it to it's former glory. Just don't make me buy a GTV6.
Best wishes,
