De Dion swap from Alfa 75 to Alfetta

Does anyone know whether the DeDion off a Alfa 75 can be swapped into a 1975 Alfetta GT Coupe? Are there any size differences?

As I want to keep the Alfetta tyre four bolt pattern, how hard is it to pull off the 4 bolt stud plate from the rear hub and put onto the AlFA 75 De Dion? Is it as simple as pull out the pin, remove the cage around the centre nut and remove the centre nut. Followed by a gear puller to remove the plate?

All this is part of a twin spark conversion. As I have a complete donor car I thought why stop at just the engine lets do the gearbox and rear DeDion as well.

I did a 1800 75 Dedion and gearbox change into an earlier Alfetta GTV when I had my workshop and it wasn`t a problem as we changed the speedo drive over on the bench to the cable system. It was also, being an 1800 transaxle, 4 stud bolt pattern for the wheels but the proceedure as you described to change over I`m pretty sure is right to keep the 4 bolt wheel studs. Good luck. I`ve thought of either a twin spark or V6 conversion for one of my two early Alfettas as I like that early style. I`ll watch with interest.

I would think that the De Dion would be the same for both cars. Don't quote me on that though. Do you have a problem with the rear in your '79?

In the U.S. and probably everywhere else, the V6 cars have a different DeDion tube. That's not to say they won't interchange, but they are not the same. The V6 car uses a larger bushing at the front of the triangle. Obviously that bushing has to fit into the crossmember that's bolted to the chassis.

Aaaahhh.... I stand corrected.. thanks.

Paul

I guess I'll use the spare V-6 De dion for the base of a trailer

The De Dion that I have in the Alfetta has come in contact with something over the years and has a gouge in it, about 10cm long. Its still straight and works fine but I thought that this may weaken the overall structure since it is not perfectly cylindrical.

So since I have a spare in good condition I intend to swap them over, if they fit.

Might pay to measure just in case the twin spark unit is the same as a V6 one but the 4cyl versions (our US friends never saw them) go in fine unless there was a production change around the second series 75 intro.

That's true, in the U.S. we never had the twin spark, the Dedion tube out of a twin spark car may very well be the same as a V6, probably the same with a 75turbo, but I don't know for sure.

i changed the complete dedion and gearbox on my Giulietta 1.8 for 75 TS stuff, no problem at all. and on my Alfetta Sedan 1974 i had a 75 Turbo gearbox and dedion, also no problem to fit.

Pulling out the bearings almost everytime results in having to use new ones... they are a b*tch to get out properly so we prefer to swap the entire dedion tube.

I wanted to swap the wheel stud pattern only. Does this result in the problem you mentioned with having to replace the bearings?
