thermostat housing

I have not been able to find this on any other post so far, so i thought i would post this quick question here. I am going to need to replace my thermostat and there are several gaskets on the octopus of a thermostat housing on these gtv6s. When you purchase a new thermostat, do these gaskets come with it or are they sold seperately? If they come separately, which ones will i need to buy? Figured if i had the front of my engine taken apart for a timing belt, i might as well do the water pump and convert to a mechanical tensioner and replace the thermostat, just so i dont have to worry about them for a while.

If you are just replacing the thermostat, you will only need the top gasket, it is the three bolt round one with a notch, there are two others, another smaller round three bolt gasket with out the notch. Then there is the square 4 bolt gasket that goes on top of the water pump.

I am guessing you are getting the thermostat from IAP? If so they will know which gasket you will need and you will be re-using your housing, just a suggestion on this, but get the bleed bolt and washer also if you plan to bleed the system, I have had a few bleed bolts fail on me and it is frustrating to have to wait on one to show up. Another thing with the IAP GTV6/Milano Thermostat, make sure when you mount it in the housing that you have a good snug fit against the housing, the one I got did not mount flush and did not really work well, I took it apart and ground a little off the rod so the flange was flush with the housing, although not very tight, and it still takes too long to warm up, so I need to grind a little more off the rod and firm it up against the housing, but I need to order a third gasket...

i plan on replacing all the gaskets in in the thermostat housing because the previous owner only used that orange make-a-gasket stuff. Some of the things the previous owner did make me think he was on crack or something, he replaced the radiator to overflow hose with a green garden hose.

Don't forget ...

.. to replace the bleed screw brass washer. Sounds minor but with a worn washer it can be annoying when you can't get that screw snugged down enough without feeling that you are about to striping something.

Some have has success with the bi-fold metal gasket for the housing-to-pump connection. I did not as a result of imperfections in the sealing surface of the housing and only the paper version (w/ some hylomar?) worked.

Good luck.

Here are parts used on Milano and GTV6 coolant system. If you have a 2.5L GTV6 you need two item 4 hoses in picture if 3.0L engine you need one of item 3 and item 4.

Item 3 in second picture part number is for metal gasket not paper one.
