Hey I learned to drive in a 69 C20 Chevy long bed. No power steering and 3 on the tree column shift. I can put one of those into places where a truck that size should never try. Maybe it's the age creeping up but a good variable assist rack is a nice thing. Lol, I said "rack"....

I am in the process of redo-ing my car right now, and I thought about putting power steering in, then decided to not bother, and even take out the brake booster and put in a stiffer clutch I figure I can get a workout on the daily commute

5yearplan, have you tried out a Milano with power steering before? It is rumored that ZF called it the best power rack they have ever made, such is the quality of feedback and weighting of the system.

I wouldn't hesitate the thought of purchasing a GTV6 with the Milano powersteering. The increased ratio makes the car feel more tossable too. And, if you add a 330-340mm steering wheel to the mix, the ratio doesn't even feel that slow for sporting use.

If nothing else, at least this thread enabled the term poofters to be used. Been a long time since i've heard that. Thanks Richard!

My firat Alfa was a Milano and I thought the steering was superb. Perfect weight and feedback so when I got the GTV6 I really felt it was missing something. That and an extra half a liter of displacement

Grant, I haven't but will definitely try it. BMW racks are my favorite as of now (both new and old), the new Porsche racks seem to alienate the driver from the feel (I haven't really driven an older Porsche) of the road (not the mention the clutch pedal had too much travel). I recently drove an '06 M coupe and '06 Porsche Cayman S, and the BMW seemed to be so much more in touch with the road. The Porsche seemed like it was constantly trying to help me drive, and alienate me from the road. I know going from that distinction to a not power anything GTV6 is a huge leap, but those are the basis of my observations. Now to find someone with a Milano...
