Thanks. I missed Road America due to an event at Grattan with the Lotus club. I was not in the market for a GTV6 having sold my 86 six months ago, but thought the 85 would be the perfect car to have for the convention in Chicago next year. By springtime it should be trackworthy again.

Indeed it was...
When I went by the shop that Saturday night to help Patrick off-load the thing at G2, it was unreal - like a time-capsule... It reminded me of being a young dude back in South Africa - starring at these things sitting on showroom floors for hours on end...
Smells brand new inside - hearing the loud clock ticking away - unbelievable!

Looks great. I have to ask this though. How fast do the windows and wipers work?

Ha, ha!
I made sure to check that too. They work like a new car...fast and solid! It really is amazing to see that stuff as it was when new...

I feel very lucky that my 1986 62k NY GTV-6 was in much the same condition, it had been stored every Winter and garaged every night when driven, and it has already been confirmed that there is essentially no rust (which is huge). The dash is perfect (no cracks), the windows (I am told) go up and down faster than anything they've seen before. In fact, it even had the Milano A/C compressor stock from the factory!
So, I think I understand a little of your giddieness (smile). Of course, the paint on mine is not nearly as good as this one, and your beauty looks like it just came off the showroom floor. The only diiference when you first took possession of it and when the very first owner took possession when brand new, is the fact that it will now appreciate rather than deppreciate. I'm guessing $15k or $20k wouldn't pry it loose - smile. I can only imagine the feeling you had when you realized - "I got it!"
What a find! I know someone was commenting and wondering if there were any more of these left out here like yours (in like new condition), and I really hope so. I'll bet there are, and it's really thrilling to see them (thankls for the pictures). This GTV-6 also found its way into very good hands as it relates to how well it will be cared for.
Are you going to keep it dead stock, or will you do the valuable suspension upgrades, and perhaps others?
I also agree that yours is nicer than the "burgundy" one that sold on Ebay. And the silver is just an awesome look on this model - my father's was silver also, it's truly beautiful. You pretty much stole it for $10k.
Congrats, again, Pat.

Ummm, yeah...smile. Not my most recent one yet, no. It's still in the process of being upgraded - they are working on installing the RS Racing suspension right now. And there's a lot to do after that (smile)!
But I have driven plenty of GTV-sixes, Grant, including my father's in 1984, when I was 20. One trip to Sea Ranch really stands out in the memory. If I left you with the impression that I had never driven one when we met at the Alameda All-Italian Show, I apologize. I've loved this car since the day my father bought it, and I've loved Italian cars since the day in 1969 (I think it was '69 now after a lot of research on the different models) when my father bought a Fiat 124 Sports Coupe while we were vacationing with his brothers in San Luis Obispo.
I grew up with the "sports car" holding a special place in our family - it's the one place where I communicated with my father on the many trips we took, (we each had a captive audience), and of course I learned my aggressive driving techniques from years of watching him (I might add those techniques are out-dated now due to the population boom, and perhaps the preponderance of drivers ill-suited to the task - smile).
I intend to find a Fiat a 1969 124 Sports Coupe to restore in the next year after I recover financially from this "restoration" (although this is more of an "upgrading" than a restoration).
I have to say, those are basically the two vehicles I have a strong connection toward. However, I have become - grudgingly - very fond of the late 60's-early 70's Alfa GTV coupes. I could see having one of those to make it a happy triumvarite.
Thanks.
David

David,
Sorry, I was going to ask you if you tried GTV6's with stock suspension. It's pretty nice from the factory I think.
But it seems that you've driven many and you know exactly why you want to go with RSR -- no more roll for you buddy!

You would have loved the 124 spider I drove I think. He was from the local Fiat club (name escapes me at the moment) and had all kinds of work done to the car, including genuine Guy Croft heads. That spider was quick!
I hope you can make it out to some track events. A few up here are going to the Time Trial at Buttonwillow in February...mark your calendar!
Edit: I'm sure Jes is right. I haven't been looking at the AROSC page for a while. I'll just quielty place the blame on what Zamani told me....=)

Grant,
I think there must be a misunderstanding if you are referring to an AROSC track event. As far as I heard there may be a WSIR event in January (similar to this year). The BW event is usually a few months later, typically May, but this year it was late March.

Nothing I can think of to be sorry about, Grant, I figured I just left you with the idea I hadn't driven a GTV-6, so I wanted to correct that. You have excellent taste in vehicles, quite obviously.
I have owned two 124 spiders, also an X-19, and what fun they truly were. I actually never got the chance to drive my father's 124 Coupe, as my sister totalled before I got the chance, so I've never driven one, but having driven innumerable miles with my father in one, I know how lovely they drive. What's amazing about the 124 Sport Coupe is that I haven't seen one in a decade, I don't think, not even here in the Bay Area, unbelievably.
However, I have been actively looking, not to buy, but to look and try to be ready when the time comes in order to find one suitable for a nice restoration. For roughly $5k, I think it's possible to find a decent one (running, no insurmountable rust or interior issues). It has to have a wood interior, for example, and that thins the field considerably since they were not available but for a couple production years (I understand). And I'd love one with the facory available mag wheels, which is a great look on that vehicle.
But my focus now is on Project GTV-6. And things are coming along superbly to that end.
I am finding more and more that I am drawn to love true Sport (touring) Coupes.
Thanks.
David
