Alfetta GT to GTV6 Taillight Swap?
Sorry if this has been covered before...the search function didn't turn anything up.
I've seen a few posts about swapping the huge GTV6 taillight lenses to the smaller lenses from the Alfetta GT, but nothing about what it takes to make the swap. Is it just a matter of changing out the lenses or does the socket assembly have to be changed as well? How much rewiring is involved?
Thanks!
Don

So does the GTV6, the giant lens covers it up. The openings "look" the same in pictures, but I don't have access to a GT to compare them.

tail light swap
I switches the lenses on my GTV6 with just the lenses of the GT. It can be done with a small amount of effort. You will have to file down (dremel) the horizontal dividers on the backing of the GTV6. It's all plastic so it's no big deal. I also remember that the holes in the GT lenses don't all line up with the GTV6 backing. So, I had to drill a few holes in the GTV6 backing, get soame long machine screws and a couple of nuts.....and voila

I did mine no probs. And as JT mentioned you just file a channel in the lens to accomodate the vertical plastic divider bits in the GTV6 backing. The outside hole lines up good but the middle hole needs a small adjustment. Bore a small drill through the lens hole and then throught the light backing. Its only a few mms to the side. The original plastic thumb screws can still fit into the hole provided, its just a couple of mils over. I went and got some long phillips head S/S screws and screwed them up. I used a length of rubber "U" section that fits around the edge of the lens for a gasket. I managed to find a set of new lenses. But they seem to be quite hard to come by.

Thanks guys, it seems like a fairly straightforward swap. Time to start looking for some lenses.

What have you done with the rear fog lamps on the GTV6 with this conversion?
I'm planning on putting on the earlier tail lights and assumed I'd have to mount additional rear fog lights.

I have though about the conversion but did not think it was possible, looks nice and not too complicated. Great info.

Well i finally got around to doing this. Quick and easy for sure, i think i wasted all of 10 mins. The Alfetta's lights, wiring, and mounting are very similar, actually a lot of the wiring between the Alfetta and GTV6 is very close (stay tuned for an Alfetta-GTV6 dash swap!). I used the GTV6's because they are newer and better designed (i think).
1) Alfetta and GTV6 light boards. The inner and center holes match up within a hair, Fettas aren't as wide. It helps to widen your GTV6's plastic to fit without cracking your new tail lights. The outside holes are off enough so you will have to drill your own hole there. I ended up using just the center and inner holes and not drill into the GTV6 plastic.
2) Another shot showing the two covers.
3) You can clearly see the two dividers that need to be filed/dremeled down on the top portion. The bottom has a single divider between blinker and reverse light.
4) Dividers have been cut (two on top row and one on the bottom row).
5) Get yourself some long screws and bolts, and voila!! Easy as pie.
