Tires for GTV6

I have just acquired an 84 GTV6. It is desparately in need of new tires, and I was wondering what tires people have had good/bad luck with and what sizes work well. The car has the black Campy 15 x 6 wheels, and it is stock. Should I stick with the stock 195/60VR15 or should I jump up to 225/50/15? Would I have clearance problems with the larger size? Any advice or past experience is greatly appreciated.

GTV6 tires

I suggest you look at something like the BFG T/A 205-55-15 VR4 which are a good tire priced right at BJ's wholesale club.

There are as many opinions as tires but this is mine.

tires for GTV6

after considerable research (and wanting to keep the OE 6x15 wheels) I found that 205/55 15 is s good size for the street (my '6 was already lowered, and I was afraid of the NYC potholes) and this size did not do too much damage to either ride height or speedo error. Dunlop use to make a grate tire in this size (the D40M2's), and still does support this size (I think). Good all round all season are the SP4000's (they do most things pretty well and do not get too stupid under any conditions, but conversely they do not do anything as well as a more "focused"tire)

I also actively time-trial my '6 and spent several seasons on 205/50 15's (on 7X15 wheels). Initially on BFG R1's, then on Kuhmos (the Victoracers) (great tires, pretty close but ultimately not as sticky as Hoosiers, but much more affordable). Then to and now on 225/50 15's (you'll probably have to shave some of the air dan off in the front wheel well and the do rub in the rear under full suspension compresion, but still the Victoracer Kuhmos. Alot of tire on the road (the track actually) although I usually end up leaving them on the car and driving to the track.

when the 225's go I'll think very seriously about going back to the 205's.

I've time-trialed Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Pocono, Summit Point and Bridgehampton (which no longer exits) (Lime Rock is still my favorite)

I'd give Pirelli a shot! They are very nice and grip well. Though Im using 225/45/16 with Pirelli Assimetrica.

Good luck!
