I forgot to mention I was considering a lower temo thermo switch that turns on the fan about 20 degrees lower. Anybody do anything like that?

Update

It has been awhile since we posted last. Here is un update. JJ still has and is waiting for the valne covers and plenum should be here soon. Andrew Garcia is almost done. The lightened gears are done and the LSD clutch are in and almost done. I have decided to have the car and the 24V engine towed to Giuseppe at ALFA IMPORT CENTER in NY. Has has worked with JJ on other projects and has also become a good friend so I feel better having Giuseppe working on the project this point foward.

Hi Seb,

Glad to see your moving forward. I am going to work this weekend and pull the dash out. It is now 8-10 weeks for just dash and 700-900 for the bill. I think I will have Hugo restore this at the warehouse instead.

What are you doing about your brake boster situation? Did you buy a whole new LSD and gears and install yourself or are you going to get everything from Andrew?

Chuck i believe it will move allot quicker now that I am having Giuseppe at Alfa Import Center finishing the project. He is great. I was able to get an early Alfetta booster NOS from Italy for less than $100. It is much thinner that the stock it will work. The car I have has the dash cover and it does not look that bad. Now that you have the windshield out it would be allot easier to put on and glue. It would work nicely. Less than $100. I am having Andrew do everything including adding the LSD. The problem was sourcing the LSD disc's. Which I did. The transmission is being rebuilt, gears lightened, and the LSD added and the case bead blasted and sprayed.
I am also adding power door lock actuators. I will let you know how it works you can maybe do the same

Fans and double flow radiator

Hi guys,

Sorry for late reply but I haven't checked this thread for a while.

I have one standard thermatic fan on the front side of the radiator.

A double flow radiator means the radiator is effectively "two" radiators but made seamlessly as one unit. So the coolant exits one radiaotr and into the other, hence double flow. Its a great set up and never had problems with it.

The car is a road registered track car so the cooling system was built primarily for the track when the engine runs consistently at high revs.

Attached is a pic of me at the fabulous Phillip Island circuit near Melbourne (under brakes at MG corner)

Cheers, Victor

Yoh Hughqv! You can always fit a 3.0 lt 24V into your 75!

There's a complete 24v in Melbourne with extractors, already completely Autronic ECU tuned, which was fitted into a GTV6. Unfortunately the car got rear ended in a traffic accident. I think it was putting out 250 horsies at the rear wheels on Beninca's dyno. I believe asking price complete is around AUD12,000 - 14,000

It would obviously bolt straight into a GTV6, not sure what mods required for a 75.

Cheers

Victor

Sebastian,
This is a very cool project. May I suggest we ask about doing a tech clinic at the Alfa Import Center?

On the color: Alfa red!

Best regards,

Gunmetal grey, I had a red 83 for a number of years, and I don't think red suits the lines as best as the gunmetal, or failing that, silver.

Just my opinion of course.

Regarding the fan situation... on my '86 I have a lower temp dual stage thermostat, the original two puller fans and a big pusher in front of the radiator (an Italian fan taken off a Peugeot). The OEM fans work in the standard fashion, but come on sooner. (Also, good to confirm that the fans turn on as they should on when the AC is on.) The pusher comes on later at higher temp. I am usually pegged at 175 degrees; 180 degrees when at a standstill on the freeway in hot SoCal weather. Temp gauge is accurate, corresponding to measurement at the overflow bottle.

24v may run a bit hotter in a GTV6, but with a lower temp thermostat, my 24v 164 runs in the 180-190 degrees range. I think the thermostat has a huge effect on both cars -- easier to cool if you don't let the temp get excessively high in the first place. With the GTV6, adding more blow via the additional fan made all the difference in the world.
