Asbestos ?
When I did this: Alfetta Sill Cut
I found what I'm certain is asbestos between the handbrake lever bracket and the transmission tunnel. I guess its a heat insulator.
I believe the headlining insulation is just fabric, though the tar floor insulation could well have asbestos through it. At least the tar keeps the stuff encapsulated.
The handbrake insulation was decidedly frangible so BE CAREFUL !!! If you can, leave it in place and apply paint or a sealer over it.

We need to bump this thread.
So - I've started the process of putting together a N.A. Alfetta Sedan register. All of you in North America with a sedan please send me as much info as you like on your car. Info I'm collecting is:
Year
VIN #
Original Color/Current Color/Interior Color
City/State/Provence where car currently resides
Owners Name & email address (this will be confidental if so requested)
Purchased date
Finally - any special details - Transmission type (for series 2 cars), type of wheels (steel/Daytonas/Campys/Turbinas/Minilights etc.), Euro bumpers, carb conversions, hot cams, any other custom work you'd like to ad.
I currently have most of your cars in my database, I just need to fill in the blanks. If you'd like a copy - let me know (it's an Excel file), and I'll forward you one when I'm closer to done. So far, I've got 24 series 1 cars, and 18 series 2, but I still haven't gone through all my ads from eBay and CL that I've printed over the years.
Thanks and hope to hear from you all...

Jeff - My Sedan is at the painter and will return next week. I'm too lazy to dig out the title for the VIN so I'll send it along when the car comes back. If you have kept the eBay ads from the past few years you will find my car in there. I purchased it out of Cincinnati in Jan '06.

No worries - I just wanted to put the word out to Sedan owners, whenever you get around to it would be great. I recognize your car in the early pics from an ad - hopefully I still have the info. I found some of the ads - but some are misplaced or gone. I'm spending tonight looking for everything, hopefully tomorrow I'll know what I have for sure.
Thanks.
p.s. can't wait to see pics of your car out of the painters!

As I mentioned in a previous post, my painter paints cars for SEMA and concours events so he only knows how to do it one way. I stopped in to see it on Tues and he has three guys all over it. In reality the paint will be much nicer than any sane man would apply to an Alfetta but he's cutting me a deal so who am I to say no. That's the nice thing about working in the auto industry - plenty of access to quality work at a cheap price. These guys work for big job shops by day and borrow the booth, etc at night. No overhead so they just charge labor and materials (which they get at a substantial discount). Another bonus is that since they are using the boss' shop, they have to get the car in and out in a short time. Turn around time for my car is expected at 9 days start to finish.
16x7.5 OZ Superturismos show up next week, too. Merry Xmas indeed.

My Sedan isn't at my house, so I cant get the chassis number to do this now - but I was wondering if Archivio Storico keeps records on 116 cars as well as 105s?
Many thanks.

"Jealous" doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of my emotions...
Well - I dug up your eBay auction last night - but there was no mention of the VIN # So, whenever you get around to it would be cool.
Unfortunately, I'm still missing a handful of auctions that I can remember happening, but just can't find the paperwork.
I need to get my 15 x 8 O.Z. phonedials brought down to 7" and mounted pronto! Are your Superturismos white?

Actually my Superturismos are silver. I found them on eBay UK and purchased them because they are 4x98 from a Fiat Punto. Unfortunately, they are pretty banged up and in need of serious refurb. I wll have them blasted, straightened and powder coated silver again. I only paid 200 bucks for them so I'm not too worried.

fiatosca- By all means restore the "75 Alfetta. Mine I remember as one of the most balanced Alfas I have driven. Once I took off the air pump and catalytic converter, disabled the vacuum retard on the distributor, advanced the intake cam and lower the front to euro spec, it ran like stink and handled like a true sports car. I sold the car when I saw body rust recurring after I had put so much time into a complete paint job. Damned East European steel! Beautiful engineering spoiled by politics.

Well, here it is back from the painter just today. Doors, hood and decklid will come mid January. OZ rims set in place for a look-see before they go off for powder coating. Body will be sanded and rubbed out after assembly. I am a stickler for nice door jambs - these are now absolutely perfect.

Alfetta restoration
One of the most balanced cars I have ever driven. They were, of course, awfully anemic until the smog gear was removed and the cam and ignition timing was reset to Euro spec. Lowering the front end greatly improved handling and appearance. Rust was a constant problem: eastern bloc steel, engineering excellence foiled by politics.
