Ditto - save her. Drain all your accounts, and do a full restoration.
I really like the roof mounted antenna

Then there's the braking. My car's proven to be a very good high-speed braker. The distance to stop .... I think, is very good....... but consider the high speed and distance to stop -VS- How much control you have over the car. The car keeps straight and even. The car doesn't panic..........the driver might have though.
Also , there's the way it looks.
My car still has enough to flaws to sort out..........but I do get to drive it for now.

restoring Alfetta sedan
Dear Italian sedan man
Firstly I am insanally jeoleous.
Where the hell didi you find this car?
I too have been looking for a 74 model.
I lost mine in a fire 2 years ago and after 30 years of ownership I have been seperated by force. I just love that model.
What do you need to know about restoration?
Does the car work?-start change gears??
does it idel smoothly?-sign od doughnuts damage.
Any known rust-please send pics.
I have as mentioned car for 30 years and know just about everything as I have replaced many items etc.
BUT if you are feeling impartial is the car for sale??? (probably a silly question)
Love to hear your progress
Nick

Since Rob McMahan and I have been Photoshopping lately we decided to show the intended result of my Sedan resto. We borrowed SFALFAs car for the image. Clean bodyside, lowered with 16" rims.

Hey Nick, I happened to come across the car by chance up here in Northern NSW, just outside Byron Bay. The car is two-owner original from Sydney and has really only suffered at the hands of its last owner who was inexperienced in Alfas. When I got it it had no fluid in the clutch system at all and I haven't had a chance to attend to it at all, ditto the brakes but apparently the front lines leak profusely. So i'll attend to those soon.
The engine on the other hand, that fired easily after I replaced the (ancient) plugs and settled down to a nice idle with a terrific exhaust note. The fans didn't kick in, but I dont think I ran it long enough.
So, once I attend to the hydraulics I should be able to drive it, albeit just around my father in law's property.
The rust seems to be confined to the bolt-on panels like the doors (the worst) and the valance under the windscreen, and around the windscreen. The boot is water-tight (as is the interior) and there is nothing visible in the sills at all. The wheel arches also look very tidy.
All trim is present and correct.
So now, what to do first I guess?!?

Gee thanks - Now I will be up nights worrying about how I'm going to get my car to actually look like that!
BTW - while you're photoshopping, kill those side markers too, will ya?

No problem. We actually got rid of your front plate, too. Would you like us to put a blower sticking out of the hood?

First get the brakes fixed so as it will stop.
Rule one change the fluid every year-I do it at Rego time.
HAve a look at the doughnuts on the drive shaft for cracks.Thats very pricy.
Put rust converter on all rust to slow down the Rot.
It's good to hear rust is located in the usual spot.
Do you have a Alfa parts supplier?
Are you a Alfa Club member?
Pull the door trims off and get some fish oil into them to stop further rust. If you are keen I recommend lead wiping-later on that for now.
Chek the fron guards at the bottom above the chrome strips for rust where the guard joins the lower panels.
Do you have a badge on the drivers side guard?
Usually the clock doesn't work.
Don't worry about tuning until you are sure the car is worth the $$ to fix at this point.
What are the gear changes like? any crunching in 2nd gear?. Clutch is usually very hard and take up at the top -that's normal-change fluid yearly too.
Please add pics of rust.
Good luck

I'll add more detail rust pics soon Nick.
I am curious about the question of the badge on the driver's side guard. Yes, it has one. It says "alfa romeo centro stile" and I thought it was non-originale, but perhaps it belongs there? More info please...
I'll ley you know the answers to your questions in due course. My wife is expecting our second child in the next week so Alfetta takes a back-burner for a while, a real back burner because the 1750 is getting a new cylinder head and a different gearbox very soon too!
More info to come, please inform about the badge.

Here's some rust for you...
Here's an image I just came across on the mac.
LH side, passenger door. As you can see, the front guard isn't at all frilly, and neither are the sills (though less visible, I assure you they're solid)

Hi,
THe badge appeared in the first 2 models (one with a wooden steering wheel) and the second with black vynal. I had one on my car and it is cute. someone stole my badge so I replace it with a "club badge" of the same size. still looks ok.
The early model has the small Alfa heart on the front grill and "Alfetta" on the boot lit not Alfetta 1.8 eventhogh they are the same car. Head rests will be rectangular.
Good luck with the baby.
Rust in lower door is normal but needs to be arested before it creeps up higher-

Yeah - I rode for a couple of years without the front plate and then got nabbed for it by the fuzz It's there only "begrudgingly" for the man. No on the blower, thank you, but I wouldn't mind a white ceramic-coated side pipe (though, it would really be exiting out the driver's side...).
Oh, and I actually had it lowered that low for a couple of hours - I couldn't pull in or out of my garage (it's on a sharp incline), without getting stuck, so I had to raise it up a notch to park it!

Picked this up for 200 bucks, recently started work on it, got the engine running today, fuel pump needs replacing and carbs need a good tuning, aswell as some wire thing that gives me the ****s. Main thing however is interior and body work...
