GTV-6 racing exhaust
I am now starting to prepare my GTV-6 track car to use at the AROC convention this summer.
Can anyone tell me what they run for exhaust systems on racing V 6s? Straight pipes? There is no need for back-pressure, right?

I'd run straight pipes..A while ago someone was selling a straight BORLA sidepipe for a 6 on the digest, very cool.

You need to be careful in choosing an exhaust system for the track these days. Many tracks have a decibel meter and will black flag you for being too loud. If I were you, I would check with whoever is running the time-trials and ask if there is a limitation for the convention.
Additionally, because of the fuel injection and mapping of the L-Jetronic FI system and the ECU, I would be careful about just running straight pipes. Plus the car would never be able to be run on the street. I believe that even GTV6 racers in SCCA IT classes need mufflers.
I'm not an expert, but I know enough to tell you not to assume that you can have any exhaust configuration you like. Hopefully, someone who knows the answer will respond to you.
Cheers,

Alex, do you suppose you could solve the FI mapping thing by welding in an oxygen sensor fitting in the pipe where the cat was? I would think that removing the cat and middle muffler would definately improve power as well as better ground clearance. Could always hang an Ansa freeflow in the rear to moderate and tune the tone!!
For the brake overheating issue, I want to make air scoops on the body right behind the doors to channel air at the calipers and rotors. I guess I need to find out restrictions and body/engine mod limits for the AROC event.
A day with no speed traps ---- YEE HAH !!!!!

Although you might have to do some body work to side exit one, i would consider a SuperTrapp or something like it. I had an ITB Alfetta 2L with one, and it ran like crap if you took it off, or took out all the discs. There is some back pressure required on the 2L's at least. Just assuming on the 6, but my basic mechanic instinct (not 100% reliable) says there must be.
See you in New Hampshire, if I ain't in Iraq...

GTV6 racing exhaust
After racing a GTV6 in ITS since 97 , here is my current exhaust. Shankle headers into a 2.5 y pipe, that connects t oa Flowmaster 40 series race muffler, and the tail pipe exits just in front of the rear wheel. I have run so many different exhaust configerations starting from a stock ansa system to completely open. Dyno tests showed that you need some back pressure or you loose mid-range torque that is needed to accelrate out of slow to mid-speed turns. Hope this helps.
