The proportioning valve was actually the wrong item but the one I am trying to get is just a replacement part, not an upgrade, because the original one doesn't work.

Finally
We Finally managed to replace the rear passenger wheel bearing that has been plaguing us since this cars arrival. What we did was to dissasmble the bearing inside of its dedion home. First we removed the halfshaft from the brake to the wheel. Then we ground a hole the size of the bearing balls into the bearing and removed all of the bearin balls. This allowed us to remove the wheel spindle.. Now we had the inner part of wheel bearing still stuck on the wheel spindle, but its out of the car now, and The outter part of the wheel bearing stuck inside the dedion. We were nailing everything with a sledge hammer or what ever tool we thought would provide some help but still we could not budge these parts. We ended up using the same process for both parts, grinding a section of the wheel bearing away so that it no longer had its tensile stregth and they came out pretty smoothly. The instillation of the new wheel bearing was pretty uneventful also. Sorry that we didn't take any pics but we sorta got on a roll finally taking our frustrations out on these parts that we held such malice towards. When we were done the od wheel bearing didn't have much to it. The Next goal: The Engine

Hey Bob,
Have we taken stock of what all is needed (parts and work) before we attempt to fire up the engine?
At the least we need to reassemble the coolant system, change the tensioner and timing belt.
We should also consider taking a look at the waterpump, for physical condition as well as checking the electrical connectors.
The engine turns freely, and the timing appeared correct, so I don't think we're in danger of damaging anything by attempting to turn it over.
Have you looked at the ECU and its wiring to see if everything exists and can be connected?
Anyone have words of wisdom in this area? This is the first time I've ever attempted to resurrect a long-silent engine.....

depending on how long its been sionce the motor ran, you may want to pour a little WD-40 or penatrant, or lightweight engine oil and let it sit overnight, just so everything is free'd up before you start exploding things inside there.

5yearplan, I honestly have no clue how long its been sitting. My guesstimate is "a long time". I know bob shot some sort of lubricating goo down there. I don't know if its forumlated to penetrate anything.....but its going to be sitting down in there while we try to get everything ready for the first firing attempt.
We still don't really know why the car was parked. But we're really really hopeful that it was something not related to the engine...

I know how that goes, as my car sat for 10 years, supposedly only needing a fuel pump, now that there is one in it, all kinds of leaks have surfaced. Slowly but surely its getting to be street drivable. Good luck to you!

Hi Grant,
Well the engine spins freely and i replaced the timing belt. It started to be apparent that the amount of time it would take to get it driveable wasn't worth it when you can pick up one that runs for pretty cheap. I decided to part out the car but keep the engine.

years ago my ex-wife had a cat named phedra (she, the ex not the cat, was an english teacher, which may or may not mean anything here). I remaned the cat something which I thought was much more appropriate - the furry dummy.

Very good point. I've been learning that it's much easier to start off with a 7 out of 10 car than a 3 or 4 out of 10 car. Luckily for us, the difference between the two for transaxle Alfas seems to only be hundreds of dollars, not thousands!
I hope you get a track car soon, racing transaxle Alfas is a blast! Get ready for a lot of challenges and disappointments!
