mystery wire

I was adjusting the steering wheel (centering) and have found a wire that runs through the steering column cover that has a tiny female spade plug on it. It appears to run from the ignition switch to under the dash. The wire is actually a "Y". I cannot figure out what this is or what it does. It is a factory deal as it has a sheath around it. This connector fell of it designated place and I would like to replace it. The key buzzer functions so it must not be that.

What year/model car? Sounds like a horn button wire? What kind of steering wheel do you have (aftermarket/stock?) and does the horn currently work?

Hey, I have one of those too. As I recall it is a white wire. It ends with a small female connector (about half the size as a standard connector) around the bottom edge of the lower steering column shroud. I've never figured out what it was or where it was supposed to connect. Everything works so I never bothered to trace it up to the top of the column (or wherever it goes).

Horn works fine, car is an 86 GTV6. Glad to hear I am not the only owner of a mystery wire. Still, I would like to know where it goes and what it does.
Original equipment steering wheel.

If memory serves, these cars came with buzzers. Most people like me threw them out the window after being anoyed. Maybe its for that.

Nope, the key buzzer still works (wish it would quit).
