Alfetta gearbox

Just a heads up as I've posted in the Parts Wanted section as well, but I'm planning a gearbox rebuild this winter, as my Alfetta's second gear is getting really bothersome. I don't even use it now until I've driven a few miles and warmed everything up. I'm looking for a gearbox or parts therein, esp. a second gear with good dogs.
Thanks

Alfetta Gearbox

Jim,
Any transaxle style box will work for you. It is not hard at all to remove the dog teeth from the gears. In rebuilding our Lemons transaxles I've taken both an Alfetta and a GTV6 transaxle apart and used the dog teeth from 4th and 5th gears to replace the worn out teeth on 2nd and 3rd.

Removing Syncro teeth

Here is how I remove and replace the syncro teeth on Alfa gears.
Install the snap ring on the gear
I use one of the bushing spacers as part of my pressing fixture
I use a bearing splitter to press against
Line up the teeth and install the new syncro teeth

Thanks Wes, appreciate the help. Now all I need is a spare gearbox with decent dog gears.

Dog teeth

Jim,

Larry at Alfa Parts Exchange will sell just the dog teeth for $60.00 per gear. That way you can see what your getting right off the bat. Most of the time when I part out a transaxle I only count on 4th and 5th being any good. I took four transaxles apart and out of that I was able to rebuild 1 transaxle for my street car and our two Lemons transaxles but that cleared me out on dog teeth.
