A couple of the rusted-to-death GTV6s, that I've had over the years, apparently had the professional inside and under rustproofing done to them by the former owner.

I discovered this as I was crawling under these cars to salvage useful bits, after we called in the Priest to give it last rites! Thick, sticky, gummy, grease-like substance all over the under side of the car. And little plastic caps in rocker panels, etc., where they had drilled holes to coat the interiors of any hollow sections, and recapped the holes.

Can't say those cars had any longer life spans than the ones that had never been treated. If they still offer those treatments today, I'm sure that the technology has improved. But the only two rust-proofing treatments I know that guarantees your ALFA will live to a natural life span is:
1) Move to the Sonoran Desert in NE Mexico (not sure how many quality ALFA mechanics you'll find there?)
2) Put your GTV6 under cover one day before the first snowstorm arrives.

These poor defenseless things had rust impending before the first owner drove them off the showroom floor.

It is really hit or miss with rust. I have my daily driver with only slight surface rust where the body trim hooked in by the back edge of the drivers side front wheel-well. I took off the body trim (gonna fill the holes) and blasted the rust out and am going to put the POR15 stuff on it. I used it in an engine bay of a spider I blasted and it works amazing. Just make sure to really scuff it up prior to paint. I didn't scuff well enough and the primer didn't stick and I am going to have to repaint the whole engine bay.

Eastwood has some undercoat solutions but the best thing you can do is just put the car on a lift every few months and give it a good inspection and cleaning. A power washer with hot water and some degreaser does wonders keeping the underside clean and if it is clean you can spot rust quickly and get at it easily.

I've tried rust bullet and POR15. Looks good at first, but the rust seems to find it's way under and around it.

3M - rust fighter seems to work pretty well on the backside of new welded in patches or seams that have yet to begun to rust.

I hear that Body Schutz is pretty good when applied to clean metal. This was the factory "undercoating" too.

The only way to keep these cars from rusting is to keep them clean and dry.

Actually I have been pretty satisfied with the body durability of this car. It was 20 years old when I got it, with minimal rust behind the front wheels. Now 5 winters later it has "typical" Alfa rust - probably 2 years from being killed by it.

Over hear in the uk we have wax oil which was originally made by finnegans but was bought by hammerite.
Wax oil is the best thing for rust proofing, protection and driving out moisture and we have a lot of salt on british roads
My gtv6 gets waxoiled every year before its put away and it doesnt see the snow or worst still the salt

DONT DRIVE YOUR GTV6 IN THE WINTER
