I have just put on a new set of drilled and grooved front discs. I asked for a soft pads and received "Trusting" pads, they are as hard as a rock. The brakes no longer vibrate but when I push down hard I can't make the brakes grip and the pedal feels springy and hard.
I had Lucas pads on before and they were much better but I believe they are also a hard pad.. I want the brakes to be good for open road driving , I don't care if they are soft and wear out. Any suggestions?

Ferodo and EBC both supply regular pads for this brake application, so you could ask there.
However if you have a spongy feeling from the pedal, maybe you should air your brakes. Also old brake lines can give a springy feeling. If so, you could change to braided brake lines, which dont expand(so much) under pressure.
About the mentioned front discs you are using, what brand are they, original size, photo?

Thanks for the advise Gabor, I puchased the brake parts from EB spares in the UK, the discs are the same size as standard but have 5mm extra disc machining on them , ie the pads dont cover the surface completely .I only changed the discs as I didn't want to put on new brake lines as well because I wanted to see what changing just the discs and pads would do. I will change the front pipes next and see if the springy feel goes as I also bought 3 braided brake pipes and new rear slotted and ventilated rear discs. They look identical to the ones IAP and Centreline sell and are made in Italy by INTERCAR S.p.A. and are called CAR and came in a yellow box. The discs I took off had virtually no wear so I think they must have been replaced as the car has done 211,000 kms, although one side was a lot thinner than the other.
I will try the EBC or Ferodo, also perhaps the standard ATE pads if they make them any more. The new pads have a huge bevel on each side and a piece out of the top and hence much less surface area than the Lucas pads, they must be made to fit many brake applications. I gather they are cheap rubbish.

I like the red dot racing discs and pads, real improvement over standard. Mind you, I want to replace the rear discs and pads now and I can't find them! A shame as I am a satisfied customer. Changing the front discs to red dot, 6 slot really made a noticeable difference, they didn't fade too badly on the track either although I probably wasn't going fast enough!

I can purchase EBC greenstuff pads for the GTV6 from Alfisti Net in Germany, I like the feel and bite of soft pads, but I do mostly open road driving and need to pull up quickly but not as much as you would on a track. 20,000 kms would be a satisfactory life span.My brakes are not always warm when I need them.

Red Dot / Brakes & Clutches / Euro Performance Car Parts
I cannot vouch for this company as I bought from needforspeed.co.uk but they no longer stock reddotracing stuff. I also don't know if these prices are competitive. They are actually made in Italy by a company called Metalfren.
Red dot were tested in Auto Italia in 2004 and showed a good improvement in stopping distances over standard, thats why I bought them!

I run Tarox front discs (the G88 I believe) and Ferodo combo pads with zero issues/fade/etc. Rear setup are SZ rotors with Ferodo combo as well.
Andy over at Performatek is a great resource (in the US!) and I can't believe he isn't mentioned in this thread. He stocks the best braking stuff whether it be OE replacement or multi-pot conversion kits, and is a worthwhile Alfa vendor to support. He has taken great care of me in the past. He will advise you honestly on what you need if you are honest with what you are looking for.

I have used EBC green on my Milano and they work well on the track, 14 days and plenty of material left but they are now cracked.
I agree with racingswim, I was goning to go with Hawk for my Alfetta racer but I think Ill give Andy a call! I have bought from him and not been disappointed and its good to support some smaller Alfa suppliers.

The EBC greens are for the road, so no wonder. The EBC yellows are for track and road, no cracks either on track or road in my experience.

You are right of course, not offered for the moment. My experience is with Wilwood brakes on GTV6 and also yellow EBC on other fast road cars. The yellow EBC is also offered for the big Tarox kit for GTV6. About the regular GTV6/Milano brakes I will ask if they can deliver yellow pads on special order. Hopefully they can.

Thanks. That would give another option. I am putting 75/Milano brakes on my Alfetta race car. As it will be at least 350kg lighter I think they will work well.

You have all been a great help re the brake pads. I got onto Andy at Performatek, we had a great chat over the phone (15 minutes), he is great to deal with and gave me great advice, very helpful and is great re freight rates etc. Anyway I have ordered 2 reconditioned rear calipers and a fast road set of front and rear Porterfield pads. I will report on the pads when fitted, I canceled my EBC front and rear pad order from Germany.
