Alfetta/GTV6/Milano drive shaft thoughts

Hey All,

We were going through drive shafts last night, trying to decide which one was best to put in the LeMons Milano. We laid three out on the ground, and it had us scratching our heads for a bit.

The one on the top is pure Milano, slip joint on the front (to the left), etc.

The one in the middle I'm thinking must be GTV6, it's got the threaded part that goes into the slip joint, but the rear section is shorter.

The one on the bottom had us puzzled. It is labeled as having come from a 1987 Milano. I got it from the guy who took it out, questioned it when I was loading it up, and he swore he took it out himself.

Not, the front shaft is thin, unlike the thick front Milano/GTV6 shafts. The rear part is thick, unlike the thin Milano/GTV6 shafts. And the center donut is thicker.

I'm thinking this must be an Alfetta (Sedan) drive shaft?

It is the same exact length as the upper Milano shaft, and the center support is in the same exact place.

If this is an Alfetta shaft, then is it true that Alfetta owners (Sedan or Coupe) might have the option of swapping in Milano or GTV6 drive shafts, and therefore getting access to the later donuts (earlier ones are unobtanium, right?).

Anyhow, I have a Milano, a GTV6, an Alfetta Coupe, and an Alfetta sedan at the moment. I'll make sure to take pics of the drive shafts, and measurements, as they rotate through the lift.

Unless, of course, somebody out there has already done all of this research.

???

Very interesting...It does look like an Alfetta Sedan driveshaft - the question is which year?? It's hard enough swapping out early driveshafts for '78-'79 driveshafts - I wonder if it's another level of pain to convert to Milano.
Look up username "Todd" and shoot him a message - IIRC, he has a Milano driveshaft in his '77 Sedan.

Oh - do I have your sedan in my registry? Can't remember off the top of my head.

I have two driveshats out, one of an old 75 2.5 v6 and one of the latest 1.6 IE, Donuts are differents and the front part is thinner in the old V6 than the last 1.6 IE (???).

Here are some pictures, obviously the V6 one is the broken "rust edition" driveshaft.

I took a driveshaft just like the bottom one in the first pic off my Milano Verde. No slip yoke, thin front section, fat middle donut, usual V6 front and rear donuts.

Check the parts listings at iap or somewhere....i THINK the later milano had a different driveshaft setup and took a different center flex disc...the late GTV6 and early Milano used the same driveshaft.

Also there was a different setup for the automatic trans cars....i have no idea what that was.

Try giving Larry at APE a call....he's taken a few apart.

hth,
