Hello all! I will try to keep this short, but the gist of it is:
I am a recent S3 Spider owner who also really likes cars. I can only keep about 6 at once due to parking. Recently I sold one of my cars (yesterday... yesterday I sold one of my cars) but it has been for sale for a while and I've been casually surfing Craigslist for a replacement.
I found a 1989 Alfetta 2000 nearby for $2500 OBO and it is pretty rough. I want to know if I should buy it.
The good:
Body looks mostly straight, the price is excellent, I like the look, bumpers are available (though they're from an earlier model), it is currently in use and running, I like the wheels, and it fits my wants for my next vehicle.
The bad:
The paint is shot; hood is shot; it has the wrong engine (1987 engine with dual Webers); the seats, carpets, and door cards are done for, door cards have been replaced with what looks like plywood; no pictures of the back seat at the moment; seller admits to rust "mostly in the trunk"; wrong tail lights; it is about 4 hours away and I JUST drove that far to look at a car I didn't buy (Honda N600);
My thoughts:
I like the look and think it would be fun to add another Alfa to the stable. I have concerns about rust and the gearbox and really don't feel like driving out there to take a look. My thinking is it is a recent(ish) barn find that has been repaired for fun, but without much concern for originality.
What do you guys think? Love it or leave it?
