I'm replacing all the flex disks on the driveshaft and I see that nylock nuts were used. Rather than trying to replace them, can I just use Locktite, and if so, which kind is appropriate?
Considering the fact that the driveshaft is turning at engine RPM, why WOULDN'T you want to put nylok nuts back on? Alfa engineers apparently thought they were the best choice. Imagine what would happen if you dropped a flex coupling at 6000RPM...
Maybe I was unclear...I will use the same nylock nuts that were installed, but I think they can't be considered to hold on reliably after they've been removed. So, I want to put them back on but add locktite on the threads as insurance. I didn't see similar nuts offered by the usual suppliers so I figured people resuse them with Locktite instead of trying to source the same nuts. This is my first flex disk change, what does everyone do - do you guys replace the nylock nuts or resuse them with locktite?

It is fine to re-use nylock nuts. If you think that they are offering less resistance you can tap the metal surrounding the nylon with a hammer to tighten them up. Carroll Smith discusses this in one of his books, either "Prepare to Win" or "Engineer to Win".
Blue Loctite for the "belt and suspenders" solution.
I am also skeptical about the reuse of nylock nuts. There are a number of fastener vendors if you want to replace the nuts and avoid the use of Loctite.
ok--- I get it. A bit of Loctite never hurt anybody, I suppose. I have seen engineering recommendations (but only in a critical application) that Nylok nuts only be reused a specified number of times, but I have reused them repeatedly without issues many times. Both on cars and motorcycles, without any loosening.
My consideration was also the exact balance that must be maintained on these drivelines, right down to washers and nuts. But I will also admit right now I am NOT that experienced with the 116 or 119 models. Our son's car is our first GTV-6, and we've never owned a Milano.
So I'm with you, Hector... based on my own wrenching experience, I'd reuse them without hesitation.
I'm a belt and suspenders guy. On our Chump Alfetta I reuse the nylocs and apply high strength Locktite (271 I think). We end up doing an r&r on the transaxle 4-5 times per season. We have been at it for 4 years with well over 200 race hours and have never found a loose nut on the driveshaft.
I've got a couple of basic questions on the center driveshaft support...as usual I didn't take enough photos before disassembling.
I've pressed a new bearing into the support and it looks to be seated ok. But wondering about:
1. Do I have the support in the right orientation? I think this is correct since it allows room for the other part to seat into the splines, but want to make sure before I press things down
2. Do I press the support down until it's snug with the slinger? Trying to understand how the slinger/shaft/center bearing rotation work together.
Blue Loctite the spline!!!!!! Shouldn't of put the Little piece on the end, should of put the 2 nuts and washer.
Looks backwards?? Shouldn't see any splines!!! Something is wrong there!!!
Thanks alfasrule...I was just showing the center shaft placement, other stuff goes on there. The little piece on the top is the spherical bearing and is normal there. I think I answered my own question though...if I orient the center support the other way, there won't be any room for the center yoke piece to slide onto the splines nor could I screw in the two lock nuts.
I also noticed when I butted the center support against the slinger that the slinger convex part is against the inner part of the bearing, so they move together and it makes sense.
Now about the blue loctite on the splines...that doesn't seem right to me. Wouldn't I want to put anti-seize on the splines to make it easy to separate the yoke for a future service...and blue loctite on the two wide nuts that secure the center yoke to the shaft at the splines?
