I just got a replacement rear flex disc that looks identical to the previous one but I can't get it to fit. The hole on the disc for the shaft bearing seems a bit too small (imperceptibly different).
I've tried freezing the drive shaft (its split at the center) and leaving the disc out in the sun, but that wasn't enough. I was going to try this again, but maybe stick the disc in the oven at 150 degrees.
Any other ideas?
I guess the last resort is take the disc to a machine shop and have them enlarge the hole to match the previous disc ?
I'm not able to measure it with my calipers because the jaws are too short to fit squarely in the hole, and my bore gauge is too big.
Kevin, it looks identical and I was even able to see from the old markings that they are the same part (I thought the same thing and compared to my front disc to confirm that I had a proper rear one).
If this isn't the usual case, then it seems that it was made slightly off and I should return it.
You absolutely sure it's too small? It's supposed to be a tight fit. Or, is your bearing not fully seated or damaged? That split spherical bearing can be damaged easily too... Last thing to check for is flashing or rubber where it shouldn't be. It just sort of clicks into place. Good luck.
Kevin, I did ask Jason at Alfissimo about it and he suggested maybe my other one was warn down. I said I would try a few things (like freezing the driveshaft) and see if that would work. So far no success. The split bearing looks to be in good shape and I'm afraid of pushing too hard to try and make it fit. It does seem hard to get it squared on to the hole, but with the other disc I can slip it in with a little finagling. I've been trying with the little dust seal on...I think I'll try it with the dust seal off the disc and down the bearing so that I can slip it on after (hopefully).
Will be busy at work this week so may update on this next weekend....any more ideas welcome though!
