Alfetta Sprint Veloce with Behr Air Conditioning

I have a '79 Sprint Veloce with a Behr aftermarket air conditioner. The Behr facia panel below the conditioned air outlet grill has an ash tray and a radio cutout just in front of the shift lever. A standard radio will only go into the opening about half way before it hits the floor of the car and the A/C mounting bracket. Have others seen this problem, and if so, how have you handled it?

Thanks for any help.

I had to go underneath and strip out some of the carpet insolation. It's snug but I was able to fit mine in. Also wire it and test it before you snap it in. There is no room to do anything once it's in.
