I need to replace the speedometer in my '85 GTV6. Can I use one from any GTV6 or do I need to find one from a car with the same final drive ratio for it be accurate?
Not sure about how far off the mph becomes if a different year speedo is installed. That happens all the time, since you can't always be that specific about matching the gearing and the gauge.
But this may be the more important question... earlier models had a 2 wire sending unit, and later models had a 3 wire setup. I think only '86s had the latter. Make sure you ask that question first.
The '86 speedos had 2 extra electrical tabs on the back of the speedo, too.
No problem... when you get it sorted out, if you end up needing a speedo let me know. I can probably help.
I have 3 dead GTV6s for bone cars. The parts help keep my 3.0 on the road, and help supply my project car. So there should be plenty of extra ALFA Bits beyond what I will be needing.
Can you send me that same request to my e-mail direct? Easier to keep track of.
I'll check. I think I may have an 85 mph and a 140 mph, in the two wire design. There is always an off chance that parts of your dead one are salvagable. If so, we could work out a trade in??
