Hi,
What a great photo, the transporter seems to be similar to one used by another racing stable the name of which escapes me for the moment .
As a contrast I am attaching some photos of the Iveco transporter used by AR to transport DTM cars. The photos were taken a number of years ago at the Phoenix Park races in Dublin (IRL), when the 155 DTM cars were giving demonstration runs on the old Grand Prix circuit. The cars on that occasion were driven by Nicola Larini, Christian Danner and Stefano Modena . The AR1750 winner of the 1929 Grand Prix was also present at the same event .
Incidentally the main straight of the GP circuit was used during the 1903 Gordon Bennett Trophy to conduct the time trials and it was on this same circuit that the first 100mph lap was set by Prince “ Bira”.

Isn't there a monument right in the middle of the main straight? Or did the monument mark a turn (right?) on the GP circuit?

Hi,
For the duration of the 1929 and 1930's Grand Prix the Phoenix Monument which stands in the middle of a roundabout outside the American Ambassodors residence , was removed and rebuilt after the races were finished. The races which are held annually in the park at the present use only a portion of the old track and vere off into a triangular course before the monument . As can be seen from the attached a substantial piece of stone was required to be removed and rebuilt. The trophy for the GPs were in fact a silver replica of the monument itself.

Sounds kind of like the races that were in a park in Turin in the 1940s and early 1950s. A famous race of only Cisitalia D-46 1100 monopostos was held in the park I am thinking of....

Even though this vehicle is called a truck it was in my opinion based upon an Alfa 800A bus chassis. Scuderia Ferrari used this 800 vehicle for a short time. At that time the vehicle was in the Ferrari colours tow-tone grey. After scuderia Ferrari stopped using this "truck" it was sold to scuderia Marzotto who raced with Ferrari vehicles. At the time this vehicle was in use by scuderia Marzotto it was repainted in red colour.

Very nice picture by the way. I haven't seen this one before Decreteni. Thanks for sharing

As far as I know Scuderia Ferrari started using this vehicle in 1948 until 1951. From 1952 it was in use by Scuderia Marzotto until ?????

I don't think it is the same transporter as this Marzotto Alfa one...hard to tell from the angle of the black and white photo I posted. (Miniature made by Gulp/Gila model of Italy.....about $500 US)

I thought that it would be interesting to compare the Ferrari and Scuderia Marzotto AR 800 transporters , so attach photos of the two models and rather poor quality photos.

I don't think the real ones are the same vehicle. The Gila models are probably based on the same casting...

@Dretceterini; The Scuderis Ferrari and Scuderia Marzotto Alfa 800A "truck" are 100% the same vehicles. The Gila scale model is indeed the same mold. Gila made only very few samples of the Ferrari version. Soon it was forbidden by the Ferrari company to make this scale model. If you ever find the Ferrari version you are sure you have a rare item.

The Ferrari picture you posted in the first post of this interesting thread is maybe not the same vehicle as the Gila modelli version, but I still think it is. If you exchange the hood on the picture you posted with the standard Alfa autobus hood (as on the Scuderia Ferrari and Scuderia Marzotto vehicles from Gulp) then the vehicle is already 95% the same. I think is a mere facelifted version of the existing vehicle.

What would interest me is who made the body of this/these vehicle(s)? Does anybody on this forum know?

Bjorn, who is a regular poster on the Atlas F1 nostalgia forum and the Ferrari BB is the expert on race car transporters. He posts here on occassion.

I have another picture of the Scuderia Ferrari 800A transporter at the Grand Prix of Luxembourg in 1948. Unfortunately I have no clue how to add pictures to this forum otherwise I could post it.

Let's hope the race transporter expert on this forum can shed a light on who made the body and whether the dretceterini picture of post1 and the Gila modelli transporter are the same vehicle (I think so)
