Apparently Jim's mower is just one of those wimpy 'off the showroom floor' types and he's simply jelous that he's not mastered the art of getting big hairy balls out of little tiny engines.

This thread is beginning to sound like a "Home Imrpovement" episode. However, since you brought it up . . . When I was a kid I had a new, all black, Cushman Eagle scooter---the only one in town. My dad cut the head and matched the ports. With me on it it would run a solid 75mph. So, there.

But to get things back on track: 2600's are wonderful, ornate, old cars which are lovely to look at. They are just, IMHO, poor candidates for racers. I always thought they were a great engine in need of a great chasis. What a car that would have been.

2600 sprints did reasonably well in their class as racers back in the day. About 15 years ago, a 2600 sprint beat a Ferrari 250SWB in it's class in the Italian historic championships. Yes, they are VERY nose heavy, but can be made to handle reasonably well..

Race prepared 2600 SZ!

Alfa Romeo Conrero Zagatto

I stumbled across this on google - they seem to have overcome the 400mm wheel problem

FYI: This car (856034) and 2600 SZ racing history (or, more correctly, the absence thereof) is discussed in this thread. More info about a real Conrero 2600 engine (and more about 856034) can be found here.
