Can you explain how you converted all the bearings to needle type bearings and what it takes to do so. Is this a close ratio 'box. I would like to fit this in my Ti Super (rep) race car

 

Hi Jim,
no it's not a close ratio box.

Well, you have to enlarge the middle hole on a lathe for example and find a needle bearing that fits.

I have a gear box with lightened gears that I could install the needle bearings if I knew the dimensions to bore out the gears to and what needle bearings to install. This would resolve the issue of having to install new bronze bushings and honing them out to the correct dimensions.

 

Thank you for posting this,but we do need more details.We would need the +/-tolerance of the finished hole,what final surface finish of the new hole,and wouldn't it be necessary to re-harden this area? Any substantial difference in gearbox noise?

 

I am beginning to think this is not what it appears to be on the surface. Just a few posts then nothing. Leaves every one hanging waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop.
