Lightweight 17" 5x98 Wheels For Milano Or 164;

I need something that is lightweight, in good taste and in reasonable shape please!

They will either become and interim race wheel for the 3.7 Milano, or an interim street-wheel for the 6-speed 164! Either way, they need to be light and anywhere form 7.5" wide to 9" wide, 17" wheels in a 5x98 bolt-pattern (or blank...)

Email me via john@reginaceleste.com please or buzz me at 425.941.4747!

JJ get the BLACK 5x100 Enkei RPF-1 from edgeracing.com. Machining them to 5X98 should be easy, or use the wobbly nuts. It weighs 15 lbs and are 8" wide.

Budget does not allow for the wheels that I really want right now, so this is a call for some reasonably-priced, pre-owned, interim alternatives...

I borrowed the 7.5 Pro Race 1.2s from the 6-speed car for the last track day of the year outing in the 3.7 and now I just need something for the winter to roll around on - for either car. I'll get what I really want next year - before the season starts!

Hi, Newbie question: How are the wheels machined to go from 5 x 100 to 5 x 98? 2mm probably isn't a lot. And I have to ask about the "wobbly nuts". Any concern when using them for racing?

thanks, GP.

They can drill them and have inserts put in. Or just use wobble bolts or variation bolts. I am not one for drilling wheels. Wobble bolts are safer IMO.
OZ use to supply them for all 5X98 patterns with 5X100 wheels. So I would say that they are safer than drilling. But you can and it has been done.

FYI - you only need to drill one (1) mm closer to the center. The key is, it's not just moving the hole 1mm towards the center bore of the wheel, but to redrill the seats as well, 1mm towards the center bore of the wheel. This way, the nut will seat correctly on the wheel.

Nope. None whatsoever. When done by a competent machinist, and not with a dremel, they are perfectly usable. Here are some track events I've used my 75 with redrilled wheels (5x100 -> 5x98). I have more pics, but these should do:

Volk TE-37, originally fit a VW Jetta VR6 (5x100), redrilled to 5x98:

SSR Integral, originally fit a VW Golf VR6 (5x100), redrilled to 5x98:

My favorite; lightweight and strong, SSR Competition, bought new from Tire Rack for a Toyota Celica GT-S (5x100), redrilled to 5x98:

Yes, it'll fit if you dremel any wheel to approximately 5x98-ish. But I'd recommend you find a professional to do it for you for best (and safe) results

Thanks Nizam. What wheel size (15, 16, 17?) x ? did you use for the wheels above? The SSR competition looks great.

I use the wobble bolts with 5x100 Borbets, and I recommend them, as they are proof tested and TUV approved by the European Authorities (stricter than ours, I'll bet, because of the higher speeds one can achieve there), and far cheaper than having a qualified wheel shop do a redrill. Just make sure you have the correct hub centric spacer ring.

One place that supplies them is Serpent Auto Sport (where I bought mine), and I expect Jason can get them as well.

I use wobble bolts only as Del says they are TUV approved and OZ use to supply them with all alfa specific applications.

I would think drilling the hub would be a whole lot safer than the wheel.

But again the safest way is variation bolts which I do offer with all my wheels along with hub rings

Jungle juice,
Which rota wheels did you purchase for your 164? Are they 5x98?

Thanks, Clint
