Alex:
I'm not sure if that car is a replica created around a real 6c2500 (but not a Tipo 256), or one of the 3 spiders plus one fastback coupe with that body style (similar to the Auto-Avio 815)
I know of at least 2 modern 6c2500 based replicars with that body style.
If it is the car that was in southern California about 15 years ago, then it is a replicar, based on a post-WW2 (circa 1947) 6c2500SS. The real Tipo 256s are all 1939-1940.

Here is the list of Tipo 256 Super Sport. Those marked with a E,is in existence.
Per, where did you find that information. I was aware that there had been some testing of injection, but that they really ran it in competition is very interesting

It's written on the bottom line of your document! And pictured in Anselmi's book as well, I seem to remember with a dedicated sidebar (not the book at hand).

The problem is that I was told there were 19 Tipo 256s, and Anselmi's book shows only 17. I'm almost certain that one of the 2 missing cars was a 3rd Ala Spessa, but I'm not sure what the 19th car was. If you look at the International 6c2500 Register site, it says only a total of 8 Tipo 256s! I also am not sure excatly what the difference is between a pre-war SS and a Tipo 256....

If you look at the pictures from The Tubruk race, there was only 2 Ala Spessa. In the Touring book quantity in mentioned as few and pair.
So I think, in this occasion, we can rely on Anselmi. (Stated with the risk of the "Orwell Thought Police")

Anselmi's book lists the pre-war Tipo SS and Tipo 256 cars together. There really is no indication of which is which. I think thsi might be a case like with the 12c37 GP car, where some sources use that name, and other sources use the name 412 for the same car.
I don't think it is all that important if 17 or 19 cars were built; this thread started with lamenting how few are left, and how many replicars there are. Unfortunately, that is not just the case with these cars, but the same problem exists with TZs, Ferrari Daytona spiders, Ferrari GTOs and Testa Rosas, and on, and on....

That's right, and according to Anselmi there is 3 left, and I suppose its the latest list, I have pictures of the 2 Touring bodied, and thought that I also had one of the Pinin Farina one, but could not find it. So if somebody have a picture of the Pinin Farina one, I will post the Touring ones chassis 915.014 and 915015. 914.014 is re bodied from a Spider

I hope someone digs up the Pinin Farina car, cause I am VERY anxious to see the surviving ones.

This is the car that was owned by Von Richtoffen and was in the BB One ad. I think it went to Australia, but I don't know where it is now...
