I came across an old photo that has been in a box of photos at home as long as I can remember. It was probably taken on a Box Brownie and is quite small but we were surprised when we scanned it how clear it turned out. In hand writing on the back are the following notes:

"The "paddock" at Lobethal 1940. No.1 is Alf Barret's Alfa. Over the radiator is the Brooklands Riley entered by Jackson Motors of Adelaide and driven by Aub Ramsay which broke a tappet on the starting line and ran the whole 50 mile race on 3 cylinders. On the left is a 3-Litre Bentley Ute used as a tender. Notr the barbed wire around the paddock."

Some more details of the Alfa would have been good but perhaps others can add to the story.
