According to my knowledge the Bertone GT Am engine was a twin spark shallow valve angle 1985 cc 230-240Hp engine with Lucas fuel injection.
Here its a 16V engine with carburettors. Is this car a historic variant of the GT Am, or is this a private creation made much later ?

According to the owner this is the real deal and it was raced in this configuration.
With a bit of zooming in the photo I found this chassis no. AR*4530841*.
And I think that the owner knows what he has because he also had these toys with him.
one GT V8 But thanks to our green friends it wasn't allowed to run they said it was to loud, but a racing engine is never to loud
In the back is a wide 1300 GTA and a 155
And in his pit box was this GTA-SA engine just bolted together for display. Hopefully he has sorted it out before the next Spettacolo Sportivo so we can hear it in it's full glory.

Just Fantastico! Thank you!

I imagine this is a case of trying to keep a race car competitive, ie. continual engine upgrades, as you are right the GTAm's had a 2 valve engine. This one is definitely a 4 valver.

The superchargers are driven by an oil pump, what looks like the Spica is actualy the oil pump. I think it uses engine oil to drive them, but I couldn't tell because some oil lines were missing. On top of the pump it a lever that engages the pump but only when the throtle is about 80% open. I had to move some levers to see what would happen.

A real SA motor (all 2 of them) was built off the 1600 GTA motor just like in the picture. It looks very authentic to me.
GTAm motors were 8V motors and were of later elk then then the GTA-SA. There was a 16V GTAm motor used for Rally cars late in their day.

Nope, 2 valves twin plugs but narrower included valve angle, 1985cc (I think) using the mono-sleeve in a 1750 block.
The 4 valvers were probably made for Formula 2 single seaters ... or atleast a variant was.

The Luigi Fusi Alfa bible:
GTA SA(67-68): 1570cc 86X 67,5 mm 220 Hp DIN a 7500, twin spark, 80 degr. valve angle. 2 valves
GT Am(70-71): 1985 cc 84,5 X 88,5mm about 240 SAE a 7500 , twin spark, 45 degr. valve angle, 2 valves
The 16 V engine is not mentioned in this book at all, and particularly not with the GT Am. I have heard that the 16V engine was used by some of the 116GTV rally cars, but not in connection with the 105 GTV. Also if using the 16V engine one would expect it with injection since even the 8V predecessor had it.
So one could speculate how this 16V engine above landed in the 105 GTV, and the cars history..maybe Autodelta put it there at a later time?

In their Euro Championship years ,'70 &'71, GTAms ran 8v, 45*, twin plug heads with f/injection as this was the homolgated design at the time.
However, heads of various 8v and 16v configuration were available to purchase from Autodelta at any time (if you had the bucks) and could be fitted to many bottom end configurations for all sorts of cc/head combinations. So of course people did this for all sorts of national and club level races all over the world, many of which did not conform to any "homologation" at all. So it is not surprising that odd combinations turn up in cars from time to time and it is not possible to catagorise every one.
Examples; amongst my bits and pieces: 8v, 80* 1600 twin plug, carb from Formula 2. 8v, 45* twin plug from 86x67 F2, inject. 8v, 45* twin plug, inj. 84.5x88.5 from GTAm. 8v, 45* twin plug, carb from Alfetta rally. 16v, carb from Alfetta rally. Or you could mix up the whole damn lot and build what you wish!.....say a 16v 67x74, 1150cc or maybe 8v, 80* 86x88.5, 2055cc !!
Vince.

Thanks Vince, your answer is spot on and reminds me of how things worked those days! Autodelta supplied people with parts they needed and for what they were prepared to pay for. I was at their premises once to buy a couple of camshafts for an Alfetta GTV 2000. Sadly the price was so stiff that I had to decline! Of course they supplied the racing teams which were involved with Alfa racing but they also sold to private persons.

Gabor.
Do you remember from back then which cams they were? I am thinking if you had a 2L motor they may have been GP1 cams? Tell us more of what you remember of Autodelta
