Museo Storico: Montreal prototype wheels

Hello all.

Does anyone have pictures of the Montreal prototype in Museo Storico, taken before 1998, or in 1999, 2000 or 2001?

The prototype was apparently on display for quite some time with GTA wheels, something at least one of the two were fitted with (for testing purposes, I assume) after returning from Expo '67.

If you have paper photos you're unable to post, could you tell me the year the picture was taken and whether it has GTA wheels or the "Miura-like" wheels?

I'm trying to piece together a tiny bit of Alfa history for an article, so if anyone can help, I'll appreciate it a lot.

Hello TorW,

I have to check but I think to have one or two pics of the Montreal prototype with GTA wheels.
I confirm (from the infos I have) that the GTA wheels were fitted for testing purposes.
Let me know your e-mail eddress and I'll scan the pics.
Best regards

I got a load I took July 26 -02. Will that be of assistance?

Edit: I did manage to catch the -67 Expo car on one photo actually and the wheels are visible. I'll post it here once I get home tonight.

Here's a picture I took in '78-'79 of the Expo Monti.
The second picture comes from a magazine they gave during my visit at the museum then.

It would have been great to see what wheels it was displayed with in the late 70's, but unfortunately the wheels doesn't show in the photo

The last of your pictures clearly shows the GTA wheels. This official photo is all over the net. I wonder when it was taken, but it loks like Italy instead of Canada. Also, there's no way to tell whether this is the prototype used for testing or the one they saved for the museum.

But thanks for your help!

Yes! These are the one-off Montreal prototype wheels. They are similar to the ones found on Lamborghini Miura and other period Bertone designs.

So these wheels could have materialised in the museum between 1998 and 2002.

The core of the question really is: what happened to the other Montreal prototype? And why did both prototypes get new wheels?

Hmmm...

Thanks for the pictures.

AlfaRonny: the first two pictures are official Archivio Storico pics which I already have. The last one is a scan from a 1972 Style Auto issue about the Montreal.

GTV116: as I suspected, the Miura-like wheels appeared on the musum prototype between 98 and 01.

In any case, the article is now written and appeared in the christmas issue of the Norwegian Alfa Owners Club "Alfanytt". A glossy 10-page special on the Montreal. Those who sent me pictures have been credited in the article
