Old Picture Of An Abarth Frame

Over 40+ years ago in either Sports Car Quarterly or Sports Car Graphic the attached isometric rendering was published as a proposed Abarth frame to be built but I have never been able tofind out anything about it or thr car if it were built. Does anyone know of it or the car?

I assume that it was either 750 or 101 series adn always wanted to build a frame like it and use my "stash" of 750 and 101 parts but never got around to doing so. Now I am considering it again, but would switch to 115 components since I sold all my old parts years ago!!

To me it looks like the frame of the 1957 Alfa-Abarth 1000, eventually nicely bodied by Bertone for the 1958 Turin show. The experimental car showed however too much flexibility and, despite attempts to strenghten it by Giuseppe Busso and Conrero, it was abandoned. But the involved people didn't regret that decision since it was also the starting point for the Giulia TZ, for which Alfa Direction gave green light in 1959. BTW, if you compare the frame layout of this Abarth experiment with the TZ frame, you can't miss the parenthood (unlike the Asardo ): the TZ is basically the same layout with extra tubes, especially on the sides and in the scuttle area.

I would recommend that, if you go ahead with a 'special' project, you take inspiration from the Tz frame instead.

Yes I think that you are right, it is the Abarth Bertone 1000.
I head a story about this, there was 3 protos build, for test on Avus race track, 2 where injured, and scrapped.
these 2 where used as basic by Collani to build his Abarth Collani.
Can anyone confirm that story

Thanks for the reply. It jogs my memory a bit and I think I do now remember that it was in fact the 1000 prototype frame!! And it does show some similarity to the TZ frame. And it always looked a tad under-designed to me (I am a retired Mechanical Engineer formerly a Boeing Aerospace Chief Engineer) and if I were to buildI would probably over-design it. Back in my racing days I spent a lot of time on a friends Lotus Super Seven fixing some of Colin's under designed frame tubes!!!!

Thank you for the confirmation.
I have only read 3 Het K. and none is nr.63. Somewhere on the net, I suppose. But I have never been able to find confirmation on the story. But I think its interesting, regarding the reasons the Abarth/Bertone 1000 development was closed and replaced by the TZ. But also interesting regarding the Collani history
