FIAT might think this type of "free hype" costs them nothing, but you can tell from reading this thread what it has done to the company's credibility among what must be the most loyal customers they have left in the USA.

I got all excited reading reports that the 8C was going to be produced, but now see that was also an on-again-off-again hoax.

...and, yes JoeIowa. Fiat has cried wolf too many times.
In my line of work I find that most of the outsourced parts like motors and pcb's are so poor in quality and longevity they should be embarrased. When a commercial customer ask's why thier new unit already has experienced an expensive failure, I simply hand them the box and point to where it was assembled/manufactured. I'm not pointing a finger at any one country, most of it is junk regardless of the cheap labor country in which it was produced.

And they are not planning on bringing us the 166? For shame!

Probably because the 166 will be discontinued sometime in 2006. Imagine the uproar if Alfa had offered obsolete models on the US market. Oh, well, maybe some of the resident FIAT bashers then would have something real to complain about

The limited edition 8C Competizione will be introduced at the 2007 Detroit Auto show, at which time Marchione will announce the return of Alfa Romeo to the US.

This was recently quoted in the Italian press.

Marchione you can believe, because he was born in Italy, raised in Windsor/Detroit, Has a degree in Law and is a chartered accountant. After a North American career with the US auto industry, he was recruited to make the rescue and turnaround of Fiat.

Elio

I cant believe it, Alfas made in China? I live in China and believe me you do not want to buy a car made here, or anything else for that matter. Trust me on this!

With the gas prices in the US on the rise, and US Automakers insisting that Americans want SUV's and trucks, the market is ripe for Alfa return. A China plant that is scary, they are already producing our computers, making our tennis shoes. Next you will say Alfa customer service will be in India. The horrer.

In my never to be humble opinion, the last truely great car that Alfa built; way ahead of the competition, was the Giulietta.

The last real Alfa was the SZ & RZ ES30 built less than 20 years ago.
Last models were built in 1993.
Some people have no taste at all.
