No, the auction with the Disco Volante ended about two years ago. I'll try and find the old auction catalog for reference.

If it were real would it be on an open trailer? (I don't think so)

I sent Red Baron's an email asking for the serial number, sold price and if I could scan and post the auction catalog photo. Their spring auction is this weekend so I don't know how long it will take for them to respond. Will post a reply when I receive it.

I could be wrong, seeing as how I'm certainly not an expert, but arent the bottom of the all the "disco" cars' doors' usually rounded and they end just above the chrome strip, not flush with it as this one does? I know the coupe's tended to end below the strip, but they were rounded edges as well I thought. Also the chrome strip seems to bump down slightly where the door meets it, which is suspicious.

Please shoot me down if I'm wrong, I really have no expertise in this other than looking at pretty pictures

You're right. But if you compare closely pics of the real thing with those of the replicars, it's all the shape which is wrong. I reckon there's some good craftmanship needed even to get such a result, but at the same time it shows the real artistry of Touring when no one manages to get a shape right.

I'm amazed that further Disco replicars are yet coming out. Looks like everybody thried building one in his basement...

I dug up the old Red Baron's acution catalog. It was from spring of 2003. The description stated that one of their scouts found the disco volante tucked away in a garage in Italy, having been there for many years. I called and asked how much the car sold for but was told that they don't share any info from past sales. Aside from anyone actually being at the auction it appears impossible to tell if the auction car was authentic or just another recreation.

Could this be it?

The truck and trailer have PA plates, and this auction was in PA.

Mo in NJ
A bit bored and very behind at work.
