When I saw the ZatCar it was tucked away in a corner of his "warehouse". While I remember it looking "wrong" in many ways I guess I wasn't prepared for how truly shameful it looks in the bright light of day!

Carter
I am sad to report that our dear friend Carter Hendricks suffered a fire in his shop in downtown St Louis Tuesday afternoon, and that he suffered some serious, though not life-threatening injuries in the ordeal. Those of you that know him well will not be surprised to learn that he got burned saving his beloved boxer James.
I haven't talked with Carter yet, but I spoke with family members yesterday. It sounds like damage to the shop is extensive but not total. Damage to Carter sounds to be confined to serious burns on one arm. I believe he is undergoing surgery today. Sadly he lost his beloved Giulia Super in the fire.
My heart goes out to Carter, and Lynn and Anna.
--Bo
ps : I apologize for hijacking this topic -- and Carter will probably hate me for sidetracking it. So perhaps if people want to discuss this we should create a separate thread.

I'm ver sorry to hear this. On that very Tuesday I had several email exchanges with Carter, so just before this happened. I wish him and his family will have a fast recovery in health and goods and hope he will join us soon again! My thoughts are with you and your family.

So sorry to hear this. I'm sure we all wish Carter a speedy recovery. If there is anything I can personally do, PM me...

Tom Zat's Disco
Foolish foolish people. Frankly, if I had that car of Tom Zat I would certainly believe it genuine, even if not one of the final ones purchased by Alfa and graced with engine and chassis number. Look on pages 68, 70, 71 and 72 of the book DISCO VOLANTE. I say no more. Many different body attempts and workups were being built. One of those looks exactly like Tom's car. Not all got completely finished or even fitted with an engine. But the whole project was ashcanned over night. What happened to the other cars? I say Tom has ended up with one.
Sorry about Carter Hendricks.

I've always said with Alfa virtually anything seems possible, but I would like to see some evidence. If it indeed the body was built by Touring, couldn't Tom have gotten something from Anderloni stating such? Than again, it could have been sold off as scrap and eventually ended up in Wisconsin.
It ceratainly appears to be the case in regard to the only Ferari P3/4 (NOT P3 or P4, but an interim model) that somehow the remnanats "escaped" Ferrari, eventually wound up with Piper in England who really did't know exactly what he had, sold it off the remanats of a P4, and now the only P3/4, S/N 0846 is alive and well in the US.

If you look closely at the Anderloni book photos, there is no comparison. The level of detail and finish on the Alfa-produced cars is quite different from that of the Zat car. Look also at how the tube chassis is joined in the center grill on the Zat car; on the real cars these tubes continuous, not split and joined by welds. The side openings are irregular, the metal trim is horrid, the wheel arches are the incorrect shape, the tail "swoop" is incorrect, the list goes on and on.
Carter would be much more detailed in his response, which I know he was working on at the time of the fire. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Did we loose a few pages here?
Regarding Nardi book, he built a handfull of cars, mostly Lancia and some Fiat powered. He built a mid-engine Grand Prix car with Lancia components that failed to qualifiy for the Italian race and was put on the shelf. There is only one Alfa mentioned in his biography, a 6C2500 that he built or modified and also drove in the MM race. There is a photo and it seems to be lower, wider and shorter than the usual 2500, more like an A6GCS. He was a fairly acomplished driver with numerous wins.
Of special note to Alfisti, Nardi was the first test driver of the Alfetta 158!

We did.
I have the posts 286-300 in archive, and proposed them to Simon for re-upload.
As he got very busy getting it all on again, I think we should wait a bit.

On a remotely related subject, John Riseley-Pritchard built a C-52 copy in 1953 around a modified Cooper 500cc F3 chassis (just how he did this I'm not sure, as the Cooper chassis is rear engined, and this car was front engined). The body was built by Wakefild's of Byfleet, England and painted red. It initally had a Riley 1500 cc motor, which threw a rod, causing a fire. The car was then rebuilt with a Connaught 1500cc motor and painted green, and at a later date, dark blue metalic. The car was fast, but kept breaking things and was always a DNF. It actualy lead 16 of 20 laps at the British Empire Trophy Sportscar race, at Oulton Park in April of 1954. In 1955, while being tested by one of Rob Walker's mechanics, the car was crashed and was supposedly written off. I'm sure the Connaught engine was saved, as it was worth more than a complete Jag 120. I'm wondering if the coachwork also survived...after all, it had already been saved once after a crash and a fire in 1953, when the Riley motor was in it...
Here is a link to a photo of a model of this car, for sale on e-bay..
