IMHO, 412030 is the ultimate most desirable car ever, as it's the only MM 2.9B with its original body, albeit several times restored. 412031 is a close match as it has a new body crafted after 412030's one as model. So I wouldn't be so pedant, and would be happy to go for 412031

I agree that this is the ultimate car. I was lucky enough to have been allowed to drive it when Bill Serri owned it. My undersatnding is that the current owner, Ralph Lauen, paid the estate something like 10 million for the car, and spent another million into restoring it.

Besides the obvious, not much history on 412030 is posted following the link.

Are there any better sources of information on the MM 2900s? I might have to wait for Simon Moore to reprint his book.

Many of the larger libraries have copies of Simon Moore's 8c2900 book on file. It is by far the best book on the 2900s (as is his book on the 8c2300s), but any of the better generic Alfa books has some information on the 2900s. Simon's book has now gotten very rare and rather expensive. It will be a while before the revised edition comes out, as he is working on a pre-war Alfa GP car book.

I wrote parkside publications, and they said a reprint of 2.9 was in the works. I sure hope so!!

Interesting but I prefer the Coupe 2900B non-MM body style myself ... just right. The MM style is too flashy for me, not that I would say no to ownership

Are you speaking of the 2-door sedans, or the LeMans style coupe?

Well, there's simply no alternative to Simon Moore's 2.9 book. And after seeing in another thread that Alleggerita is rocketting towards $1000 price ranges, albeit I rate Alleggerita an excellent book, I would be prone to conclude that the Immortal 2.9 is a bargain at the same price!

Indeed, Simon is currently working on two projects. One is the third part of his trilogy, now covering the GP cars of the thirties, and the second is the update of the 2.9 book. Indeed, much information surfaced until 1986, and a second edition would be really useful. Not sure which of the two projects will be completed first. Now think that back in 1986 he announced the 2.3 book within a couple of years...

The Immortal 2.9 has to be one of the most expensive books. I can only think of a few other autmotive books that can reach $1000:

Daytona Cobra Coupes by Peter Brock
La Scuderia Ferrari 1929 - 1939 by Orsini (Nye's English Translation)

Well, you guys have convinced me that the 2.9 reprint is very 2010. Guess I will head to library like Stu suggested.
