Races in Eritrea 1940-1955

Tried to find out more about the races held in Asmara, Eritrea and linked away to all sorts of Italian-Eritrean sites. There still seems to be quite a bond between the 2 countries looking at the Italian sites.. However ... I found THESE pics on the sites.. Ill post what I found below....

1. Ferrari 500MD driven by Bigi cristoforo and is that a Tipo C Alfa? or modified Maserati... 1954 THIS IS..

WHAT is that single seater??? Picture taken late 50s or early 60s...
The blue Alfa in the colour picture looks like it has a Monza cowl but bonnet is too short?? Is it 1750 or 1500 modified? It was owned by someone on the local US airbase post war..

In the paper article with "SULLE" in the top shows an Alfa special, a P3 Alfa and a Maserati 4CL.. Cannot read the writing though

I'm no expert on these individual cars. Two observations though:
1) The Alfa in the top picture (first post) is not a Tipo C, as the Tipo C had the exhaust on the right side.
2) The brake drums on the blue Alfa are definitely too small for an 8C

The car in top pic is actually a Maserati 6CM with modified front.... but are the others?

I'm very much warming to the idea of the Italian GP car, although again it looks like I'll have to dust off my researcher's hat and get busy.

I'm going to do a trawl for images reputed to be of that car, and maybe start drafting some scale drawings as a starting point and post some up here.

Watch this space... but don't hold your breath as I've started to get busy with work again.
