1900C "Corto Gara"

One of the Alfas that will be at Amelia Island is the only remaining Alfa Romeo 1900C "Corto Gara."

I've been working on the car in my shop the past few weeks and it is captivating. It looks much like an early series 1900 Touring Coupe, but is actually smaller and different everywhere. The car first appeared at the Girro di Sicilia on 9 March 1952, then ran the Mille Miglia and other events with Cortese.

It is fast, and modern feeling, and light on its feet. More info, and when I get back more pictures at http://www.carters-shop.com

nice!

Great web site, Carter. You've got some really rare machines there and a lot of interesting Alfa/Italian automotive history.

Do you know who now owns the Giulietta spider that is pictured sitting behind Galbiatti's shop in Italy?

Yes, great gallery -- and a very interesting car. I look forward to see more pictures of the Corto Gara.

Just back...

Just back from Amelia [900 some miles each way in my Giulia Super] and I'll try
to get some text describing the Corto Gara up on the web site sometime soon.

Thanks for the kind words about the future site.

As one can see, all I've accomplished yet is to dump some photos, and some of
the captions are wrong. Please be patient. Meanwhile, I think I will take a nap.

Bo Monroe came down to see the car last weekend and he put up a few
photos at: http://ossodiseppia.com/cortogara/cortogara.html

Thanks for the interest. It is a cool car.

That is a very interesting site. The bits of info on the Lancia Dagrada is interesting - I know someone who had one of those in pieces - not sure if he still has it. I also like all those pictures of the un-restored 1900s.

Thanks for the kind words. The photos show some of my interests, which do include the Dagrada cars. I am wondering about the car you mentioned--I sent some of my ARP Appia rod bolts to someone in Colorado who had a project underway, and I think some of the photos are of that car. Dagrada did serious modifications to the cylinder head, changing the port assignments from the original motor and putting a Weber carb on each side. I need to find time to assemble the motor for my Appia berlina, which is taking a long nap...

The 1900 photos: I plan to have a gallery of all the 1900 cars in North America. There were 8 or 9 1900 cars at Amelia Island [counting Joost's Touring, which was not exhibited, but which drove around].

I sent an email off to the guy I know who had (has?) the Dagrada to see your site. I haven't heard back from him yet. I also haven't heard anything about that car for a while so he may not still have it - or it may still be in pieces. He got a big Dagrada project about 10 years ago from a Lancia collector (I think) in Northern Ca. I know there was an engine and exhaust but I'm not sure what other parts came with it.
