Question Alfa history

Does anyone know if Alfa produced a Superleggera body style in the late 60's. I recall a 2600 version Spider with a semicircle back seat.

Superleggera was a name Carrozzeria Touring of Milan used, due to the style of construction of their coachwork. The 2600 spider was the last series produced Alfa coachwork done by Touring, and the last 2600 spider was built in 1967. There were some "one-off" Touring bodied cars after that, but not many.

According to http://www.carsfromitaly.com/others/index.html , Carrozzeria Touring was being placed in receivership in 1964 with production ceasing in January 1967. Other sources say the company ceased its activity in 1966 or 1978. 1966 or 1967 is probably correct, as Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni, the son of one of the founders of Carrozzeria Touring and head of the company until it went out of business, went on to work for Alfa Romeo, first as advisor and then as person in charge of the design department. I don't believe the Superleggera name or badge was ever used again after Carrozzeria Touring went out of business.

dretcetarini, thanks for the info. Perhaps the vehicle I remember was a "one off". Do you know of a source that has a photographic history of Alfa which includes "one off's"? Thanks

There are many Alfa books and books on specific coachbuilders that show "one-offs", but I do not know of any source that shows all of them in one place.

I always laugh when I see an ad for a series production 102 or 106 Spider advertising "Superleggera" coachwork. The "superlight" style of body construction (framework with lightweight panels) was definitely not used on these cars. Probably akin to all those ads you see (normally on e-bay) for people selling a "1978 Alpha Romero Iniezione"...

Yes, using the term "Superleggera" for unibody cars is about as much of an artifact as the name "Coca Cola" making reference to cocaine.

Ok, I think I'm gonna revive this old thread. I saw a very sad 2600 that the owner claims had Superleggera badges on the lower fenders. He has the badges but I didn't see them.
ANybody?

Are you talking about the badges on the side of the front fenders on a spider?

Good day Dr,
I didn't realize previously that all 2600 Touring Spiders bore the badges in the fenders. I found another thread that spelled it out. Thx -Matt
